XD+ Weird Screen Issue

Have had an XD+ for a while and one day the screen randomly stopped showing anything. The backlight works and the touch screen works as I can hear it unlock, however no image displays.

The weird part:
Sometimes if I cycle the power while plugging in the charger the screen comes back showing "android ev charging" screen instead of main unlock screen. IF the screen returns and I restart or turn the XD+ off, the screen goes back to just being backlit again. I can't reliably get the screen to show anything this way but it definitely seems to be related, nothing else has had any effect.

I've tried updating the firmware, cycling the power, letting it die and then charging it again.

Anyone have any thoughts on what the actual issue is or know a possible fix?

It may suffer the same problems as the old model XD. The screen ribbon may be damaged. How long ago did you buy it and from where? And where are you located?

Purchased through GeekBuying in April though it did take about 2 months to arrive. I'm located in Maryland, USA right outside of Washington DC.

I'm fairly gentle with my toys and cant think of any abuse which would cause a cable to break.

I'm at a total loss as to why its doing what its doing.

I didn't mean to imply you did damage it =)/ The problem is in the poor design of the hinge. Sometimes the case/hinge wears the ribbon down or even tears it. I am not saying that is the problem, but it sounds like it to me.

I would try going through Geekbuying first. Send them an email and explain the long shipping and that you have a problem. Keep me updated to how your progress goes, and if geekbuying does not do something about it, I MAY be able to help. But I can't give you a guarantee. If I were able to help you would have to send it to me, then pay shipping from here (chicago) to china, then once I get the repaired XD+, pay for shipping back to you ( from chicago ).

So yeh your best bet would be going through geekbuying, but as I said, please keep me updated.

I do appreciate your help.

 I was hoping that between here, Reddit, and the GPD fourms I'd be able to troubleshoot the problem but I guess I should see if GeekBuying can help. Was really hoping I could avoid RMA'ing or sending it back, but it does look like it will probably need to get sent somewhere. Bleh

Well your other option would be to try and fix the problem yourself. Maybe try opening the screen to diff positions and see if you get some flickering or something. That would tell you that it is the cable.

If you want to take that route then you could probably buy a screen ribbon and try and replace it yourself. Just be careful not to damage anything and maybe if that fails you can put it back together and send it out anyway.

Quick update: after going back and forth with GeekBuying sending multiple emails, pictures, and videos of the screen not working they agreed to repair the device and pay return shipping, if I pay for shipping to china.  I wonder how long this will take...
