XD Noob here

I got my GPD XD just yesterday, and I haven't even played any games because I've been spending so much time on configurations, and having a damn good time doing it! For all it's issues, I love the Hal Launcher, but I'm not a fan of the limited amount of emulators you can you use with shortcuts. That said, I have a few questions:

Are there any other launchers that offer shortcuts similar to Hal Launcher? I really love seeing the game displayed rather than choosing from a list, also the Hal Launcher crashes on occasion.

SNES9X Ex latest version will not hide my system bar. Is there a way to fix this? Barring retroarch, which I haven't tried yet, none of the other SNES emulators seem to work with the shortcut option as intended. I actually tried older versions of SNES9X and the system bar is hidden.

I used the 1.4 Legacy Rom. Say I want to over clock, is there an app that can assist? Or will I have to reflash my device? If I have to reflash, do I use the same process that I used before, or should I factory restore first? (I followed RetroBob's guide).

Also, any other tips for configuration? I just like reading about and seeing everyone else's rig.

Thanks!

People like Arc Browser I think for game shortcuts or as a frontend. I have never used it so I don't know how it works. I know is compatible with Retroarch which is probably the best for snes and all 8 and 16 bit systems in my opinion.

Snes9ex+ was always fine when I had my XD, no issues with status bar, maybe is a HALauncher thing or launching a game from shortcuts? It's the first time I hear about that issue.

If you want to overclock you need another version of legacyROM, 1,6 or 1,8 as you prefer and you need to reflash it. I suggest using PC as explained in the rom thread.

It's only the latest version. I've tested it with two older versions, and it hides the bar just fine. Unfortunately, the older versions aren't compatible with Hal's shortcut mapping. Thanks for the suggestions!

When I had It I think It was latest versión Too (It hasn't been updated in months) and i never had that issue. Try with snes9x Core from retroarch, which is better anyway.

Yeh as far as overclocking there are a few options as far as upgrading what you already have (1.4ghz).

For general stuff you may want to look over these guide/tuts: http://sectioneight.net/gpd-xd/tutorials

but more specifically:

A general tut/guide: Noob Guide

I can not stress enough how much CWM helps - This is a must IMO. This can also make your upgrade from 1.4 to 1.8 easy.
Installing CWM
Backup/Restore with CWM

If you want to take advantage of the faster 1.8 speeds but want to keep your base speed at 1.4. You could install 1.8 and just use a cpu app called Kernel Aduitor. You can check it out in this guide:
GPD XD - Novice Guide to Legacy Rom 1.8GHz

Here is a look at how I have my GPD XD :

If you end up getting your rig working like you want and you are still on 1.4, I have an easy way for you to upgrade as long as you have CWM installed.

Arc Browser can be used as a frontend, or as a default launcher.

You can customize it in some way.
And updates comes very often.
Here is my custom theme for Arc Browser and an example how it looks and works (game launch start from 5:05).
You can download theme here
