I use Java 6 (I installed it a long time ago), and Java 7 for lollipop (ROMs for my phone, not XD)

To compile a kernel Java is not needed. Java is for full sdk or firmware. Try with openjdk Java 6.
http://openjdk.java.net/install/

The config to compile the kernel of my GitHub is rockchip_defconfig.

Have in mind that compiling it with no changes is the same as using my kernel.img

Let me know how it goes, it's night in my country and time to bed for me jeje

I was wanting to experiment with trying to compile twrp and cwm and possibly a full rom ( not likely, but why not ).

In that case you will need Java 6, try with openjdk 6, it should work I guess, you need to download cyanogen or Omni source for 4.4  probably but I never compiled cwm for rockchip, only for amlogic old devices like jxd s7300 and s5110b, which was jellybean.
Maybe crewrktablet people can help more than me with cwm for rockchip devices, but they rarely share anything like device tree or other code. I personally never tried for rockchip because I never use cwm or TWRP in this devices

Yeh I dont think the crewrkteam will be much help. No reply.

Hm right now I have home/jdk1.6.0_45 . That mean it installed?
but when i type : java -version
I get:
The program 'java' can be found in the following packages:
*default-jre
and lists 5 more.

Try sudo apt install <select package>

I tried installing default default-jre but it is installing 8 JRE

In theory you already have Java 1.6 which is what you need.

I installed twrp and tried to flash a bootanimation using stock and your kernel. I then saved the log files. Is there any differences that would maybe point to the problem? When you get a chance if you can look over it.

I don't understand why It may fail with my kernel/rom
My rom has partitions similar to stock. There shouldn't be any difference. I remember someone in the f?rum using twrp and my ROM, but not sure if he used the crewrktablets or another one.
So no idea why It may fail to be honest
The log shows that is enable to mount system. In my rom is shown as ext3 and on stock as ext4. Os the  only difference i see. Maybe you can try to mount system manually before doing the backup, I don't know what to suggest. I am not an expert on custom recoveries. Perhaps rk3xxx autoconvert system yo ext3 which i used to add Nexus spoofing.
But that would be weird because in that case it shouldn't work with cwm.or stock recovery

yes everything about this problem is weird. hm.

The only way i see fixing it would be to try to compile TWRP myself. I don't know if I can do it but it seems like the only option.

On Oma's thread he mentions:

Quote
- generic, that means no kernel and resouce included in the image
Quote
- full touch and usb-mouse support (not supported by some kernel)

Oddly enough I have had cwm respond to touch a couple times, but I dont know why it started working. Maybe it was stock, Ill have to try to troubleshoot that too.

Quote
Q: Which resolutions for TWRP are available?
A: Landscape 1280x800, 1920x1080, 1920x1200, 2048x1536, 2560x1600 and Portrait 800x1280, 1200x1920, 1536x2048, 1600x2560. Orientation is defined by the orientation of your kernel logo.

The only option is the 800x1280 because the orientation of the kernel logo makes it so that the right resolution ( 1280x800 ) actually comes up in portrait. and in the compile thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=32965365#post32965365

Quote
We usually put all of our flags at the bottom of the BoardConfig.mk under a heading of #twrp For all devices you'll need to tell TWRP what theme to use. This TW_THEME flag replaces the older DEVICE_RESOLUTION flag. TWRP now uses scaling to stretch any theme to fit the screen resolution. There are currently 5 settings which are: portrait_hdpi, portrait_mdpi, landscape_hdpi, landscape_mdpi, and watch_mdpi. For portrait, you should probably select the hdpi theme for resolutions of 720x1280 and higher. For landscape devices, use the hdpi theme for 1280x720 or higher.
TW_THEME := portrait_hdpi

Note that themes do not rotate 90 degrees and there currently is no option to rotate a theme. If you find that the touchscreen is rotated relative to the screen, then you can use some flags (discussed later in this guide) to rotate the touch input to match the screen's orientation.

Might be possible to fix orientation of screen too.

If TWRP doesn't like my kernel there is nothing I can do, is a TWRP issue.

I do believe that to be true. I am just trying to find out where the issue is. Just like compiling your kernel, if i compile twrp I may just be duplicating the twrp build from crewrkteam. ( same problems may happen with the one I have now )

Just trying to find the problem is all.

Compiling my kernel would be similar to my kernel.img, unless you make changes to the kernel. Maybe you can try a different twrp, some people using my ROM has used twrp, so on theory It works, unless they use a different twrp version or not the crewrktablet one.
. Or just use cwm if it works ok. Perhaps you are complicatong things Too much. Have in mind crewrktablets make.many roms in img format so i think It must no be so easier to make a full ROm on flashable zip format for rockchip.
Seeing the log you posted seems that twrp wasn:t able to make backup of system files of my rom, but it could with kernel, so i don't think kernel.img is the issue

I am just thinking that Oma created it without kernel. I wonder if I can build it including your kernel.

It would be the same. A cwm without kernel means that device uses their own kernel.img, if it's inside recovery It uses the recovery kernel, which is the same as the kernel.img, just with a bigger size.
.
That is because some rockchip devices don't include kernel partition, they compile It inside boot.img, but in practical terms It make sense to compile It without kernel, because that way can be used in most rockchip devices, if you include kernel under recovery is specific for that device.
Cwm.made by omq only include the ramdisk, the stock recovery includes both things, but it doesn't matter.
For example boot.img in stock firmware includes ramdisk + kernel., So kernel.img is never used in stock, because boot.img takes priority. In my rom boot.img is just a ramdisk because kernel actually exista as kernel.img, saving size.

Ok so compiling without kernel makes sense.

Just to give you an update, you would have a nice laugh. I just barely set up java 1.6 hehe. I refomated the linux laptop i setup and finally figured out how to install and setup paths.

so yeh i am a slow noob hehe.

I learned Linux when I began to compile, so it's normal. We all begin the same way

Something I left out: One of the reasons I want to work on building a rom from scratch ( dunno if aroma installer can do it ) is so that I can customize the way the home screen looks.
If you install stock fresh firmware you have a droid home that is all setup for you and ready to go. It has all the apps and shortcuts set up. If i were able to figure it out I would like to have 1.8GHz install with apps like flashify/rombrowser/twrpmanager to make upgrading/modding easier, but more importantly I want to setup kernel aduitor as a default app and profiles built in so that 1.8GHz rom will run at 1.4 and only change when the user toggles it. Now this is meant for a Novice user, but with aroma installer I will be able to offer those options. people are scared to flash and just scared to use cwm/twrp because it is outside the normal usage of android devices for novice users. It is unknown. Now if i set it up for them with apps like flashify/rommanager/twrp manager, they will never have to boot into recovery and can do everything from the perceived safety of being inside the droid OS. ( Backups/Restore/Flash new boots/flash anything ).

If I can do that the tutorials would be drastically simplified for everyone. Development for stuff like bootanimations, setting flashes, themes and stuff like that would also be simplified to a simple: download, open flash app, select upgrade/update. This will encourage people to also use backups, since it will be so easy. So if they have a problem they can not fix, all is not lost. They simply flash an older backup.

I know I have been bugging you hehe, and you have been a very patient spaniard.  :) Muchos thank yous!

I have been setting up the environment to try and mess with firmware. I have followed this:

http://www.ree7.fr/blog/2015/04/compile-android-kitkat-on-ubuntu-14-04/

Now, it says: Then you?re all set and can continue through the next step : Downloading the Source

Is there a way I can download your 1.8GHz Rom as source?

Or do I get Omni 4.4? I don't know where to go from here.

The kernel is in my GitHub

https://github.com/skelton/XD_444

The SDK I use the Firefly rk3288 device board sdk

https://bitbucket.org/T-Firefly/firefly-rk3288

Remember to remove kernel folder in Firefly files and use mine

The config to use for the kernel is rockchip_defconfig

Also, you will need to decompile framework jar and framework.res.apk from stock ROM and include several things to the files compiled in source to get gpd mapper working. You will also need to take uboot files from stock ROM because Firefly ones are not compatible.
Gamepad.apk must be taken from stock ROM one, because is not open source. Parameter file must be taken from stock too, that can be done when extracting stock using rk3xxx tools. As you see, even using sdk there are many things to do...
A good guide for compiling the sdk is this.

http://wiki.t-firefly.com/index.php/Firefly-RK3288/Build_android/en

and got
