Now what
« on: November 19, 2018, 07:48:31 pm »
So my Original XD developed a crack on the right hinge after 2 years of day to day use
Thing is you can't even really see the crack open up unless you really look for it
The only time the crack opens up is when putting the screen into position after that the crack closes together again

Even then you can't even see the crack open up

Others where it's been something like that or is it just me?
And should I just keep using it or buy a replacement?

Mine did the same after a few months of owning it, about a year after it developed a crack and got worse I ended up purchasing a donor XD and replaced the shell/moved the screen and upgraded the dpad in the process.  It never got to a point where it functionally got in the way for me but it was hella ugly.  If you swap out the casing you just need to be careful when moving the components.  The video/ribbon cable is packed and spun in the housing of that side so just be extra careful, the adjacent side holds the hinge in place so it's naturally a stronger joint.

Originally when mine broke I tried guerilla glue, another epoxy and ended up putting a mix of both with guerilla tape atop but none of that really did the trick so ended up doing the aforementioned.   The only real positive is that the handheld looks pretty cool in two colors.

This is why I never close my GPD XD, only if I want to put it on my backpack  :)
