Author Topic: GPD XD Newbie Questions: Best Emulators, Installation, Emulator Menu... help!  (Read 16725 times)

Great device!  I've been away from the emulation space for a long time so I have a few quick questions:

1.  Which emulators work best the GPD XD?  I'm new to the Google Play store (primarily an iOS user) and there seems to be a lot of different emulators for the same console.  They're also different from the ones I'm used to using on my PC and GCW Zero.  Does anyone have a list of which work the best with the GPD XD?  Or is it just trial and error?  Some expert insight would be greatly appreciated!

2.  How do I install the new emulators on my GPD XD?  Do I need to download them through Google Play store?  After installation, wiil they show up under the Emulator, Game, or Application tab?

3.  How do I access the emulator's menu and options (within the emulator program)?  I'm using the pre-installed emulators and they work great!  But how to I access save states, video and sound options, etc?  Is it just a combination button press?  Am I missing something?

4.  Is there any way to set up WiFi so you can enter information to connect to a SSID that is not broadcasting?

Thanks again for all your help.

1. http://boards.dingoonity.org/android-devices/android-emulator-overview-share-your-preferred-setup/

2. Just install them via Google play they will show up under applications on the default launcher however most people agree that you should use a difference launcher. See here - http://boards.dingoonity.org/gpd-devices/custom-launchers-that-work-well-on-gpd-xd/

3. Don't use the pre-installed emulators, they are old and crappy and some are cracked (pirated, illegal, copies). Usually emulators have a menu option you can get to by holding the back button or select.. Forget which one it is.

4. Yes there is. This is the same on most android devices, go to Settings > WiFi > Tap the three dots at the top right > Add a network. From there you can enter SSID etc. may differ slightly from device to device, can't say I have checked on my GPD but I assume it is similar to these steps.

1.  Awesome link/thread.  Thanks.  Looks like there's no definitive emulator for each console.  Mostly trial and error?

2.  Not familiar with launchers but love the idea of customizing the user interface.  How do I change my launcher?  Is this a download and install through Google Play?  Again, sorry for this newbie question.  I've never owned an Android device before and have been using a work MacBook and iPhone for the past 10 years.

3.  I will remove the pre-installed emulators and install the ones listed in your recommended thread.  Thanks!

4.  Thanks!!!  I finally found this after 1 hour of playing with the settings option.

You can install launchers through Google Play yes, then once youve done that you'll need to play with them and the settings to get the set up and look you want. Again refer to the thread I linked if you need help with that.

When you install a launcher and go back to the home your Andoid device will ask you what launcher you want to use, select then then tap always to keep it.

You can then change the launcher whenever you want in the "home" section of settings.
