Title: Is Aliexpress safe? GPD G58 in stock there!
Post by: KSS1992 on September 30, 2014, 03:27:18 am
I know Aliexpress is like ebay where sellers post listing and I wanna buy a GPD G58 from GPD themselves they have a store there but is it safe also how fast is regular shipping? Singapore shipping I believe it's called.

It's impossible to say whether Aliexpress is safe/trustworthy, as it's not one store but thousands of stores.
Do you have a specific link?

C'mon man, stop making multiple threads about the same thing.

Anyway, regarding Aliexpress, it's important to look at the seller's rating and feedback.
There are many scammers on that site.

They don't allow PayPal, but it's still safe to pay via credit card. The seller doesn't get your money until you confirm the item has arrived... Or something like that. And I believe ever item gets a tracking number.

Lol sorry I was going to delete the other one and don't worry This is my last post about this. Thank you for the info guys! I think geekbuying might be getting it back soon too but I've heard freaky stories about them. Only intriguing thing about them is that their shipping time isn't as long as aliexpress. 15-60 days for delivery from Singapore post what the lol then again it is coming from all the way across the world to come to the USA but makes me wonder how willgoo and geekbuying can give smaller ranges of days with their least costing shipping.

Also in terms of the seller it's GPD themselves so it should be reliable.

Well, I've had things from AliExpress arrive in just over a week, but I've also had stuff arrive in over a month.
You've also got to take into account the processing time that's listed(in the cart or checkout area I think).

There are also other shipping options usually listed... I know my tablet had an option to get it shipped DHL for an extra $10. Took 3 days. I'm impatient :D

Aliexpress is like ebay. Remember just one thing: don't press the received button before you check the item is ok. A friend of mine couldn't complain about an item (opem case) because of that.

Picking mail - sometimes one is faster then the other.

Thank you guys! I'm gonna buy it I just have to use the regular shipping which says Singapore post, it's weird bc that shipping is $35 but bc the item is listed $68 it evens out it's original price of $99 plus standard shipping, I would choose the faster ones even the one just one level above the is $65 which would make the GPD full price $135 which is crazy that's way above what It went for originally lol. I'll just go with Singapore post I guess. It says processing time 15 days what can this mean.

Why what's wrong with geekbuying ? I just spent $542 with them and I'm confident that nothing will go wrong

Processing time is the time from when you place your order to when they ship the item. Remember, this could be business days, not calendar days; so expect it to ship in about 3 weeks :)

The most common complaint with Aliexpress is shipping time. Unless you spring for DHL, expect to wait a month for your item.

Geekbuying doesn't have stock, and probably never will, because this device is discontinued.

Hey everyone quick question I know the stock firmware for the GpD G58 doesn't have bluetooth but it says something about that the custom firmware adds bluetooth dongle support is this true? I see so many videos of this device being played via hdmi but I'm guessing the user must have had some kind gamepad to do this.

So short question does the GPD G58 have wireless gamepad support????? Bluetooth or other methods???

No BT in custom roms, I don't know where you read that. About gamepads, you can connect usb gamepad via OTG cable.
Title: Re: Is Aliexpress safe? GPD G58 in stock there!
Post by: KSS1992 on October 01, 2014, 11:08:12 am
So in a word there's no way to use Wireless gamepad on this device at all?

No bluetooth whatsoever? I read in Deen0xs review that he was using a wireless gamepad to play while having the device connected via hdmi now I'm confused lol.

Where is the confussion? There are wireless gamepads that are connected via USB. Wireless doesn't necessarily mean Bluetooth

Awesome thank you lol now just the debate betw this or shield tablet lol. My iPad mini retina got stolen in January and I'm determined to replace it but was told I could get any tablet so going to decide betw shield tablet and iPad mini lol. If I get iPad mini I'm getting this small device gpd g58 bc I've been wanting a device to replace my psp 1000.

No, As I have already said, BT dongles are not supported. Google removed BT USB support in Android 4.2

Reading this thing with wireless and etc I was wondering if any of you know a wireless gamepad being sold (not bluetooth). I got a tvbox but it doesn't work with bluetooth (sixaxis infamous msg segmentation fault). A similar device as those wireless mouses with a usb receiver.
Title: Re: Is Aliexpress safe? GPD G58 in stock there!

The tronsmart g01 I guess:

Or a xbox360 one with usb receiver should work too. What TVbox is the one you have? because it's weird sixaxis controller doesn't work, unless it's an amlogic s802.

I'll take a look at your suggestion skelton! My box is the tronsmart s89-h (with finless 1.9). Somewhere at freaktab Bob said it wasn't fixed yet, the bluetooth thing.

I have a cheap playasia pad with usb wire and works very well. This is a sure thing, and I know those wireless pads are too (my mouses are), but the bluetooth are always picky... doesn't work because of this, that, etc etc. What a nightmare. To have it working on my pc I had to download an app, configure, check, re-check.. uf....

I have a M8, which is also an amlogic s802, and other BT pads work, like ipega ones, Wamo, even the OUYA one. Only sixaxis is problematic in amlogic s802. Most probably because Amlogic BT stack is kind of broken, or perhaps is SeLinux, who knows.... In freaktab there are "devs" that have the source code for your box, but they don't share it to other people, so I don't think they fix it, because I don't see much development for them. I suppose Amlogic devs will actually fix the issue.

Perhaps stane1983 is the man, or at least is the only real dev at that forum that compiles kernels, makes changes and seems to know what he is doing.

I am personally not making roms for amlogic s802, (not public ones at least) because I don't have source code, so I will leave the people with source code to make the job.

Hi Skelton, i remember you, or maybe someone else, said in another topic that there was no support for usb dongles for the G5A. The nvidia shield has support for them, isn't that right?

Skelton probably knows for sure but if you mean a bluetooth dongle the nvidia shield has built in bluetooth! The portable and the tablet lol.

I think the wireless pad you showed me is the way to go. I'm going to get one then. It works on everything that has a usb, so it's fine for me. There's no way to replace the battery one day, but plugged with usb also works, I guess.

Hey DoggyDogg, I ordered a G5A from Geekbuying at end of September, is that also what you are getting from them?  I just got an email from them saying that they will be in stock to dispatch on the 12th October.  Gutted it will take so long for delivery,  its a little annoying how site states in stock but that isn't strictly true.

Hi
I was talking to geekbuyings rep on the site here before I made my purchase , 2 x gpd g5a consoles and 2 x elephone p2000 mobile phones , there was 5 days public holidays from 1st until 5th of October , I ordered on the 1st when they were off work
I know it can be frustrating waiting for stuff but I have been buying from China & Hong Kong for years now so I know what to expect , if you have ever bought anything from banggood , "which is an excellent company by the way "  you would be ready for a 5 week wait . So I always buy and expect at least a month , that way you won't be disappointed :)
Actually I will be making a few more purchases from geekbuying tonight . They will probably just be stocking fillers for Xmas but I fancy a minix neo x8-h  so maybe that aswell if the wife allows lol , I am a seasoned banggood customer but I now find geekbuying a lot cheaper and I here that there shipping is a week or so less so happy days all around :)

Yeah I'm in the UK.

I paid for the DHL shipping so hopefully once stocked/shipped shouldn't be too long.  They said the 12th so hopefully just a week to wait from then.
I have confidence in Geekbuying, they answered my query quick enough at least and you and others speak highly enough so just have to wait.  Problem is i'm impatient! and only just discovering the android tablet retro gaming scene - feel like i'm missing out!  (Enough excited rambling!)

Will update when i receive G5A or know more.  Seems a good community here and have really helped me choose the device I want.

Haha , I'm sure your exited ! I am only into android myself and so bought the g5a , I had a psp with upgraded firmware until about 2 years ago , needs a new battery just but never got around to it ,I love emus so these were the choice , I seen this forum and have been reading on the forum for around a year now trying to decide and watching the android /emu scene , the thing that sold the g5a to me was the sticks , shape , skeltons firmware . I've been watching jxd for ages and I didn't fancy one and held on , have just came back to the forum after a long while .  I'm wanting a 7" and like the ipega 9700 or gpd g7 but I think I will wait because GPD are using the better RK3288 so I'm hopeing that they will bring out a better version of the G7 soon :) maybe with a better D-pad ? Anyhow maybe I should have introduced myself to the forum scince I'm new

Bad news - got email from geekbuying today telling me that the G5A is out of stock and they will not be getting anymore, they have offered me the JXD 7300 but I need to pay difference, don't fancy it so have asked for a refund and told them that I am disappointed that it has taken 10 days to inform me of this.

I have since ordered from the amazon seller, cost a little more but just hoping I get it now!

I felt the same about the JXD devices, GDA seem to fair slightly better in reviews and the firmware from Skelton sounds great.  Anyway, hopefully will get device eventually.  If this fails than I may also end up waiting for new releases.

Hope you hear better news from geekbuying - perhaps you will get the last 1!

I have also asked for a refund mate but I wonder what's going on at gpd ? Is there new devices coming that we should wait for ? Maybe but when ?

First the G58, and now even the G5A? I thought that this was their most successful model. Or maybe they will just cancel all their actual projects in order to focus just at the new ones?

Of course they are focused in new device with RK3288 and the gamebox (tvbox), but as far as I know, g5a is still in production. In fact device was promoted in IFA Berlin, so I don't think they have discontinued it.

Maybe  g5a-1 is coming with better specs ?? Don't know ?  I know they're android tv gaming box is probably nearing launch 12th oct at the electronics fair in Hong kong ?? Don't know , it seems we will have to wait . Whatever they have in mind they need to hurry because of postage times before Xmas to the likes of uk because if you order in November you will receive your device in December so for a new device to catch on quickly without world wide advertising before Xmas is tricky ,
Don't know if this device will be released but it's on they're site

That model was just the first prototype for g5a, but in the end was not used.

I don't think they hurry too much for new models, because other companies are not releasing anything new, so no competitors at the moment. But who knows...

Banggood , geekbuying , dx , willgoo all have no stock and won't be getting any , aliexpress you can find some but it's trusting that they really have it and not a scam , ebay is ?85 for g5a with only 5 left
Amazon doesn't have any , ebay you can buy g7 for ?97 but not many left

Aliexpress is reliable. Just look a seller with good feedback and that's it.

G7 is being replaced by g7A, which is the same device as g7, just a different batch with minor hardware differences. (probably because some of the internal components are not in stock anymore, and they have to make a different board.) It's kind of surprise if they discontinue g5A, specially when they promoted it at IFA Berlin. It has sold pretty well too as far as I know.

GPD is also an oem company, so I wouldn't be surprised if we see their devices under another brand.

Hi Skelton
Because I have had problems on aliexpress and swore I wouldn't use them again I have went to gpd's aliexpress shop and they don't stock the g5a so I bought two g7's ,  but I still also want a g5a for travelling for portability  so I will maybe buy one from a decent seller on aliexpress if all goes well

HEY PPL so this is confusing I placed an order for the GPD G58 on aliexpress from GPD store there on the 29th of September but I haven't submitted payment yet I was going to today. BUT the title of GPD"s posting now says OUT OF STOCK and yet it still says BUY NOW or ADD TO CART on the page itself. Whats up with that lol Im afraid to submit payment thinking its gonna take my money and I wont get the device.

I got my refund from geekbuying yesterday and also the G5A I ordered from the amazon seller has been marked as dispatched so I am hopeful that I may yet still get hold of it!  Although just checked listing and the item is now also out of stock.
Seems a shame that they seemed to have downed tools at GPD!

I have written to some GPD guys to see what's the situation with current or future devices, if there are any. I'll keep all informed If I get some answer from them. Though probably Kelvin should be the one to explain their line-up

I have went to GPD's aliexpress shop and requested that my order for 2 x g7's to be cancelled as they haven't been posted yet.
I hope you don't mind Skelton but I told them I am only interested in g5a or g7 that are compatable with your custom Roms and that I only purchased because of your custom Roms .
As I cannot be sure that I won't be sent g7a which is most possibly incompatable then the devices would become useless to me ! So unless I am sure I can have a custom legacy rom from Skelton then I cannot purchace
I'm sorry if I used your name and I wasn't supposed to but I was just saying the truth that I need a device that can be used with your rom .
Rob :(
Ps I've had a nightmare now ! First having to get a refund from geekbuying and now I have to try and get a refund from GPD themselves because of possible firmware changes . I wish kelvin would come to the site and let us know the score :(

Hi
I would not hit buy now if it says out of stock
Definitely not !
Contact them first that's the best advice I can give you , I have lost money from aliexpress in the past by scams so be carefull and learn how there system of payments work so you can protect yourself , it's not like paypal !

Well, I personally would try to contact the seller to know if there is actually stock before making the payment.

Ok, I got some news by GPD. G5A is discontinued but will be manufactured for OEMs. That means there will be other brands who will sell g5A (with a different name I guess), but GPD will stop selling device by themselves with their brand. I don't know why, I am not a commercial, but I guess device is not as profitable as they expected, or they want to put all their effort in new devices, I don't know.

That could be bad if all the g5a consoles are made slightly different from factory to factory , I suppose we will have to wait and see , thank you for finding out some info Skelton :)

No, factory is the same. Most probably new brands just put their logo in it, but I don't think there are hardware differences, because there is only 1 factory

Lol ok so I'm getting slightly frustrated by this no response from the seller. I'm about to just pay for my original order that was there before the out of stock thing came up or just get a JXD s5100b from Amazon for only $89 with prime shipping lol I'm trying to avoid the latter as I've heard that device is full of problems right. Idk would that device be ok for at most playing PSX games with open GL plugin and nova 3 at full framerate?

Sad news, i guess. After 4 months i still play with this handheld mostly everyday. From now on the G5A will just become a collector's item. :B

Dear Robert, thanks for your message and sorry for our late reply. We just come back to work today after HK fair. I'm afraid that we don't have G7 right now. Only G7A from now on. Awfully sorry for that!

g7a use different hardware, so LegacyROMS won't be compatible....

Hi Skelton
Mr wang is refunding me for the 2 x g7's
I would be afraid to even buy a g5a now , because they have stopped production on both g7 and g5a so cannot be sure g5a's being sold now are with different hardware aswell.
At least one person has received a g7 that was actually a g7a
So this could be the same for g5a's being sold at the minuet

As far as I know, there is no other model of G5A, but I can't say for sure. Try to contact Mr.wang that will probably have more info than me.

About g7A, there is nothing I can do unless I can get a sample

I was gonna order a g7 off aliexpress, good thing I saw this first.  Are there any other online sources for the g7?  I might just pony up for a shield portable now...
