Input lag with GPD devices?
« on: March 05, 2014, 03:10:20 pm »
Has the horrible input lag of previous Android devices been fixed in the newer generation models like these new GPD handhelds?  I read something about "custom joystick drivers by tin core" which sounded promising.

I had a JXD S7300 last year.  I also had a Sony Xperia Play and Samsung Galaxy S II.  I messed around with emulators on all of those Android devices, and the input lag across every Android emulator I tried was atrocious.  The controls just weren't responsive enough to play anything well except maybe RPGs.

Maybe I'm more sensitive to it than most, but generally when I pressed "jump" in Mario World there'd be a delay of a 1/4 of a second -- then Mario would jump.  I'd run towards the edge of a platform and press "jump" when it felt right, then I'd fall right off the edge with the jump command not registering in time.

I'm a hardcore platform player, and play these games constantly on real hardware, and every Android emulator/device combo I've tried has been a disappointment in the control delay department.  I'm hoping that's been fixed but wanted to get the feelings of the community before buying one.

I don't notice any input lag at all, I have a GCW Zero which is a non-Android device, and I don't notice any difference between using one or another.. For me it's like playing emulators in a PC. Obviously, nothing is better than real hardware, but I personally don't have complaints in this sense.

I haven't heard that people that use XperiaPlay devices complain about input lag. I personally in s7300 didn't notice any input lag in Xsample firmware or my Legacy one.
Do you notice input lag when playing emus in PC? Because I know some people notice in PC too, which is quite crazy for me.
