how to open the menu in epsxe for loading/saving state?
« on: September 03, 2015, 07:29:53 pm »
Because the xd has no virtual buttons on screen, in epsxe I can't find how to open the menu for saving/loading states in epsxe while playing game (colony wars; cool space game). Does anyone know how to open that menu? :O

Skelton has Mentioned a few ways in another thread:

Doesn't the back button work as menu in ePSXE? It's what I use in ePSXE in q9 that doesn't have menu button. I never needed menu button in epsxe to be honest.

SNESFAN, the official webpage is a mess. This is the directory to find all updates for all GPD devices:

http://pan.baidu.com/share/home?uk=389368662

Edit: I extracted the firmware from XD and took a quick look. You can try the following to remove the app switch in menu:

Edit the file system/usr/keylayout/rk29-keypad.kl and change the first line which is:

key 59    APP_SWITCH

to

key 59    MENU

Set permissions of the file as they were and it should do the job I guess. If not, a deeper change is needed perhaps in kernel part.

I changed the keycodes as Skelton described and rebooted, and it worked. Now the XD's menu button functions as an Android Device's menu button normally would.   Unfortunately, the menu button will no longer work to switch between apps though...

Another option is button savior, which provides virtual buttons on the screen.
Non Root version here (Haven't Tried): https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.smart.swkey.nonroot
Root version here (Haven't Used in Long time): https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.smart.swkey

Does anyone know of a way ( besides soft/virtual buttons ) to open the app switch menu?  I'd like to be able to open the android menu with the menu button,  or hold the home key ( or the menu key ) to open the app switch menu.

Good luck,
Thanks,
jedi453

Use Xposed and Gravity box for KK and set long press Menu key to show recent apps. Plus gives lots of extra tweaks! ;)
ps I use this plus skelton's method to get menu on press and Gravity box to get app switch menu on long press.
pps  In Gravity box turn off the master switch in Quicksettings management. It doesn't play nice with the quick tiles.

I don't use epsxe too much (I use pcsx from Retroarch), but is there an option to assign a button for load/save states or menu in epsxe? Because if that's the case, probably using l3 or r3 is a better choice, because there are not many games that use that.

Also, if you press back in epsxe doesn't display a menu for GL config, etc?

Thanks a Million, Vermillion!  Xposed + Gravity Box KK worked like a charm on my XD!

Its quiet simple just hold the menu button and u can choose load state.(the one near the gamepad button)

Jedi453 Try some other options as well, My favourites are advanced power menu and double tap status bar to sleep. There are loads more but quick tiles is not working well.

Or in epsxe options set menu as volume- or +.the menu pops up and if you press the button again it just does volume +/-. I know I'm a bit late with this one. ;)
