Home and Recent disabled?
« on: August 08, 2017, 07:25:01 pm »
Hello everyone.
I recently got a GPD XD and immediately flashed Legacy on it.
At random sessions (turning on the device) my home and recent buttons don't work. At the same time, USB doesn't show contents on my PC. The recent will work if I long press it but it will open the options as normal.
Sometimes if i restart everything will work.
I have no idea how to test if this is a hardware or a software problem.
I have reflashed stock and everything works fine.
I reinstalled Legacy and seemed to work fine for a day or two, but now it doesn't work again.
This has literally ruined my experience with the product.
Any help is welcome!

That's not normal. Buttons are the same in my rom or stock, there are no changes (unless there is a new batch with some hardware change from GPD, which i doubt). I personally never had that issue in almost two years I had my XD .

...and now everything works again, buttons and usb.
This is REALLY frustrating.
Is there some kind of log I could create and post here?
The first time I thought i figured out what was the problem was when i flashed for the second time Legacy.
The problem appeared right after updating my SU binary (normal option).
After some time, it worked again so i was back to zero.
Today i also thought i figured it out because the problem solved when i switched my home launcher from nova to stock.
Then it happened again and i restarted and now it works again.
I feel like throwing it out of my window.

You can try running a dmesg from adb o terminal emulator. But certainly it's not a normal behaviour.

I tried reading up on it myself but I am not a big tech guy. It seems like it is more common then I realized. I suspect it has nothing to do with gpd or legacy, but I cant be certain.

Have you tried putting the gpd in safe mode and seeing if the buttons work?

Only reason I ask is because I would be interested in reproducing your problem on my gpd. If you make a backup i think I could restore your backup on my gpd and we could truly see if it is software/hardware. I mean if it happens to me then it has to be software.

I don't think is software issue because we all would suffer from it, unless some app provoke that behavior. But I personally never had it. Difficult to reproduce anyway.

Im still thinking it has to do with software unless his gpd shows the problem with a fresh install and no other apps installed.

It would also be interesting to see if he still has the problem after he reboots into safe mode. I guess for now it is a waiting game until he shows problems again.

Do you have something connected to USB otg? Like a gamepad or pendrive....I only see this difference.

 0.955632] usb usb2: New USB device found, idVendor=1d6b, idProduct=0002

It seems as if device found something connected to USB. I don't see other differences. I personally never had that issue, so no idea what can provoke it. Joystick and keyboard driver are no different in firmwares, so unless some app can provoke it... But in the log i don't see anything weird so no idea to be honest. All I can say is not a normal behavior, but no idea what can provoke it. I remember reading someone having a similar issue with firmware 3.4.7 but it seems it only happened to him randomly, like it seems your case.

well at the moment i have nothing connected to the usb. could my wireless mouse cause this? :/
i rebooted to safe mode (although i still see all my apps) and gpd works again.
i will try to upload a nandroid tomorrow so you could check if you like.
for the time, good night and thanks for all the help :)

I cannot check a nandroid because I don't have my XD anymore. A wireless mouse shouldn't affect to it. To be honest seems quite random so no idea what can provoke it.

I asked him for the nandroid that way i can put on my gpd and try to reproduce problem.

But if he boots into safemode , doesn't that confirm that it is a software issue then?

Ok so my guess is, one of the apps you installed is the culprit. Safe Mode doesnt load any third party apps. Try installing Titanium Backup ROOT. Start freezing the apps you installed one at a time. ( or work backwards, freeze all apps that you installed and unfreeze one at a time). You may have to give it some time because the problem doesn't show up right away or all the time.
