Help running Dreamcast and Sega Saturn games using RetroArch
« on: November 24, 2018, 10:11:24 pm »
So, i've been trying to play a few sega saturn and dreamcast games, by using their cores (yabause and reicast), but no luck so far. Which bios should i use? Should i put them at the system folder inside the retroarch folder? I start the core, but when i select the game then retroarch crashes.

I have never tried reicast core from retroarch in android, but if it's like the windows core, you a need a DC subfolder under your bios directory  you have for retroarch (what retroarch calls system folder)and put the bios there.

About saturn, if the core is yabause is slow as hell in all android devices. Only saturn decent emu for android is yaba sanshiro.

Thanks for the tip, Skelton. I placed the dc folder with the two bios files inside the system folder from retroarch. It's working now. For me the positive aspect is that the retroarch reicast allows save states (necessary for a terrible player like me).

That's bad news for Yabause then. I thought that the RetroArch Yabause would perform at the same level as Yaba Sanshiro. Unfortunately this emulator now requires Android 5.0+, modifying the sdk version won't work. I sent devMiyax an email but he said that he is now experimenting with Vulkan, so his emulator won't support kitkat anymore, which means that original xd users are stuck with version 1.9.2. Oh, well.

In Retroarch they are actually porting Kronos, which is a kind of fork of yaba sanshiro. Not sure if it's available for Android or other ARMs or just x86. About yaba Sanshiro, I guess the only option is to stay in an old version I guess for XD. Performance wise is quite limited anyway to run all games well.

The only Saturn Emulators I show on the XD1 is Yabause and Beetle Saturn. Not sure, but reDream will at some point have a Android Port, which means hopefully RetroArch will have a Core for it........just will need Cheats to work with it. Also hope they will adapt a GZDoom Core as well.

I tried a few dreamcast games using the reicast retroarch core. The best part is that the cheat codes work and also save states. Unfortunately it won't perform as good as the standalone playstore version. Now, if only they could implement these features from retroarch into the playstore version would be amazing.
