I hope to cover most of your questions here. If you have any questions yourself, feel free to ask here

GPD XD

Tutorials and Guides

Ultimate Noob Guide

This is a collection of guides that will help the new user optimize the GPD XD to get the best emulation, setup for easy backup and restore maintenance, safely overclock the cpu, and prepare the device for easy tweaks and mods. Every tutorial was written and recorded to show each and every step to make the process as smooth as it can be.
How to Install Roms [ Method 1 ]
( Unbrick Method )
You will most likely need this tutorial if you: Just bought your GPD XD and want to update your ROM, or just got bored with your own ROM and want to change, or just bricked your GPD! (OMG halp).
How to Install Roms [ Method 2 ]This is the second method to install or upgrade your firmware.I do not recommend this method because it is just not as reliable as the first method. I have upgraded firmware using this method a few times and had to keep upgrading sometimes to get it to work. This doesn't mean it wont work for you and at the very worst you just have to keep upgrading until it works. The risks of bricking your device using this method is also very low. That being said some of you may not have any other option but to use this method. This is usually because you may not have access to a pc ( Batchtool is only for pc ) and because of that I have changed my mind about making a tutorial for this method. So here it is, I hope it helps you.
Installing Custom Recovery - No PCFinally a method to install a custom recovery without needing a PC/Linux/Mac computer. You can flash it from within your device!

A custom recovery environment will do the same things as the stock Android recovery. However, it will also have additional features. Custom recoveries often have the ability to create and restore device backups. Flashing this recovery environment onto your device replaces the default, stock recovery environment with a third-party, customized recovery environment. This is a bit like flashing a custom ROM like LegacyRom ? but, instead of replacing your device?s Android operating system, it replaces the recovery environment.
TWRP Manager - Comprehensive Guide This is a much needed companion app to TWRP Recovery. This app allows you to take advantage of TWRP Recovery's basic features right from inside the android home. You no longer have to fuss with trying to time the button mashing down to enter your Custom Recovery. You can flash a new boot animation, backup your GPD-XD, restore your GPD-XD to a working backup, or flashing tweaks to your system, all from the comforts of your android home. In this tutorial I will walk you through each option.
Novice Guide to Legacy Rom 1.8GHz This tutorial will walk you through the process of installing Kernel Adiutor on top of your Legacy Rom 1.8GHz upgrade.

I have worked out an easy way to install Legacy Rom 1.8GHz and basically put a "Turbo" button on your home screen that will allow you to simply push a button whenever you play high CPU demanding emulators like PPSSPP and Dreamcast emulators. once you are finished simply turn it off. Easy enough? I hope so.

FAQs

Where do I buy the GPD XD?
Most GPD XD's will ship from china and usually take a month or so to get to you depending on where you live. The faster you want it the more you will spend, usually.

I keep getting this error: System Update Error

What charger should I use?
DO NOT USE A SAMSUNG FAST CHARGER
Read the voltage specs on your charger. Do not use any charger that has higher than 5 volts, like the Samsung Fast Charger. Normally these adapters don't cause a problem with most devices but there are some GPD XDs out there capable of switching on the 9v charging, causing them to burn out. It is a defect in the GPD XD. To minimize your chances of this it is best to only use chargers that don't have Qualcom Quick Charge or Samsung Fast Charging.

5v 2.24 amp chargers are ok, but avoid anything that says it also puts out 9v or 12v.

OK to use:
5.2v 2.4amp
5v 2.1amp
5v 2.0amp

What is a Custom Recovery? What is CWM? What is TWRP?
A custom recovery environment will do the same things as the stock Android recovery. However, it will also have additional features. Custom recoveries often have the ability to create and restore device backups. Flashing this recovery environment onto your device replaces the default, stock recovery environment with a third-party, customized recovery environment. This is a bit like flashing a custom ROM like LegacyRom ? but, instead of replacing your device?s Android operating system, it replaces the recovery environment.

A custom recovery can create and restore NANDroid backups - backups of an Android device?s entire file system. Custom recoveries offer a file browser that allows you to easily browse, manage, and restore backups. It also has other advanced features that will be useful if you?re installing and dealing with custom ROMs.

Why isn't TWRP working?
Make sure your MicroSD card is formatted as FAT32 or exFat. The most common reason TWRP doesn't backup or install zips properly has to do with the card being formatted properly.
If the card is not the issue and you are running Legacy Rom make sure you have the ext4 version. Older versions of Legacy Rom are formatted in ext3 and TWRP can not recognize the partitions.

I can not boot up and I get a message: "please enter password to decrypt storage"
This issue has not been resolved yet. I have yet to find a cause for this or a solution. The only way out of this is to reflash your GPD XD with the firmware you had on it. This means you will lose all of your data and have to start fresh.
The best way to avoid having to lose your data is to use a custom recovery and always backup. If you ever get this problem a simple restore to your last backup will fix everything. If you make a habit of backing up and you take notice of what changed before you started getting this message, you could help narrow down possibilities as to why this error happens. If anyone knows why this is happening please let me know.

Is there any way to upgrade android?
Are there any firmwares for GPD XD that are higher than Android 4.4 (Kitkat)?
Currently Kitkat is the only Android OS available. Someone is working on making a firmware with Android 7.1 but it is not stable and ready for release.
There are only three firmwares available for the GPD XD : Stock Firmware , Legacy Rom, and DroidBox FW ( same as stock, just has some apps added to it for droidbox). They all have Android Kitkat.

Why does my battery not charge past 50%/60%/70%?
This is an odd issue and is one of those problems that the cause has not been found. But there are a few things that may fix this or help.
    - Charge the XD with the screen on. ( Oddly enough, this seems to work most times )
    - Use a better quality USB Cable
    - Charge from a wall charger vs usb. ( make sure and check the specs on charger )
    - Install a battery calibrating app. Like: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.newagetools.batcalibra&hl=en

What is Legacy ROM ext4 version?

Why doesn't Google PlayStore connect?
Most of the time people run into this issue is when they reflash or just got their XD.
   Try the following:
    - Go to Date/Time settings and make sure your time/date/timezone is set properly (Number one reason )
    - Clear cache for Google Playstore and Google Services
    - Using custom recovery flash latest Gapps : http://opengapps.org/ making sure to select Platform[ARM] Android[4.4] Variant[Pico]
           - or Update Google Playtore and Google Services apks.
