I don't like that format. If I wanted something like that, I would buy a Nvdia Shield, even if it's bulkier.

I prefer PsVita form factor, but I have no problems with any form factor to be honest. At least my 3DS is very comfortable to play with.

If only they could add the android buttons that Deen0X mentioned, that would be great because this blank space between the dpad and the buttons it's kind of odd. I'm curious if these little things closer to the speakers are buttons or just some detail designs.

NOOO!!! no 4 buttons ! make it 6 on front because there is enough space fo that !!! i hate it when in Street fighter games i have to think where yo put strongest punch and kick because theres only 4 buttons on front, i would prefere to have all 6 buttons on front and L1 R1 L2 R2 somewhere else.
ABC and XYZ button layout would be best.
Dont make the screen borders too wide cause it looks bad, make them as thin as possible.
Not like this:

This is better :

BEsides that its ok

I always put middle and strong punch and kicks in front buttons in SF games, with weak punch and kick in the shoulder buttons. But yeah, I also prefer 6 front buttons though

All in all this is an interesting departure from previous designs. After too much toying around with poor quality 3188 devices I have decided I will only buy 1 3288 console. I will patiently to see which one has less serious issues and a bigger scene. Then I will probably decide.

As per today, other than occasionally using the G5A or the S7800 for commuting, I find a good tablet is a far better solution. With an Android/Windows teclast and a NES30 controller I have an insane catalog. And a much much better build quality. I will buy one, but not until Christmas so this release fits very well in my plans even if it is delayed.

My vision of the device:

- DPAD a little bit biggest
- 6 button classic layout for fighting games
- Select & Start
- include leds for Bluetooth, Wifi, Power on and Charging
- Include similar button ring of Gamebox Controller. This ring will include some buttons such: HOME, BACK, MENU, VOL+, VOL-, MUTE
- Mapper Button

Back side, with biggest L1, L2, R1 & R2 buttons.

this is my suggested layout.
Note: I?m assuming the device come with Bluetooth (hope GPD/Kelvin take this in consideration for introduce bluetooth module on their new devices)

Another version may be this (i prefer)

But i understand is complicated to put this dpad on this device...

This has probably been asked before but I cant seem to find anything on here but generally, what is the performance difference like from the 3188 to the 3288 in real terms?  The S7800 that I used to have used to have was pretty slow in most instances of PPSSPP (unless set to native PSP res) and there was quite a lot of stutter on games like Dead Trigger when settings were maxed.

Are we talking on a par with something like the Tegra 4 or maybe more?

More or less, though the main difference comes in GPU, which is a lot faster than mali400 of RK3188.

A couple of news:

- Device Won't have bluetooth. (It's not essential to me, but maybe a dead-end for some people)
- Battery will be only 4.000 mah. I don't know the battery performance of RK3288 tablets (my RK3288 device is a box), but doesn't seem too much battery.

The reason behind this apparently is the price, they tell me they want to release the device as cheap as possible.

Not dealbreakers for me, realistically 2-3 hours battery life is fine for me these days as I rarely play emulation. Good to know it will be cheap, maybe replacing the battery would be an option.

A 3DS-esque shape would be very cool!

The only that's really bothering me about the design is the placement of the speakers, it's like the gpd g5a, when you're playing you're probably going to cover them with your hands. So I would like it even more if the speakers were closer to the hinge.

Looks good. Still <3 my G5A but this looks like a logical alternative for those wanting something more portable, screen sounds better too.

Any chance of a pre-order for it? If so I would love too. My ipega is fine but this looks like the Christmas option.

It definately needs a keyboard like the Pandora. Typing on or just generally using a clamshell touchscreen is terrible. It's not designed for it. It's awkward and puts pressure on the hinge.
Plus having the keyboard is always handy, especially for old PC, Amiga etc game emulation. This is why the Pandora has a keyboard - it was initially added to allow people to play these emus.
It also opens the door for someone to later get linux on it, and for it to be used as handheld PC.

The small addition of the keyboard, has major advantages. Iv'e literally been holding out for someone to make an affordable clamshell with a keyboard.  Insta buy from me if it's done.
IT would also open the doors to a whole new set of people who would buy it. For maybe $5 (probably less of cost) its definately worth it.

If you use a similar layout to the Pandora below - with or without the top row of keys. It would be great.

If they start adding what every person here wants it will look like this:

They should try different things and let their designers do as they feel. Nobody had made a console with the design of the G5A and it rocks. So we should let they do "their thing".

It may work in the Pandora (I haven't tried it), but it will never work in a budget, cheap as hell handheld device. The Pandora is a premium, expensive item. The XD will be manufactured as cheap as possible. If you want to check how it would be, just buy a 10 dollar ebay mini wireless keyboard. Anyway, I beg to differ, a keyboard is a very bad idea for a console.

In my opinion, they should focus on delivering a solid console with good sturdy controls and battery life. No extras. Cheap but reliable. Besides, if they can put the Q88 dpad there, I'm in.

This is something that has been requested in previous threads, it would have massive appeal for the reasons I provided.
The keys operate pretty much identically as the game buttons do.  Its not rocket science. Probably would add less than $5 to the cost for a huge benefit.
