GPD XD, kinda new to it. Question about recovery
« on: September 07, 2017, 09:34:34 pm »
Hey guys, glad to be on finally. Loving my purchase so far, have LegacyRom on it and so far, loving it.

I am worried about possibly bricking the device though, especially as it cost a decent chunk of money. I got mine second hand.

How easy is this thing to recover? I've seen all the stuff about flashing and backup, and frankly it looks confusing and scary D: lol.

It's fairly unbrickable unless it physically fails. Worst case scenario it can be flashed by USB from a PC with the RKBatchTool which you can find with LegacyROM. I was going to put recovery on mine but opted to just backup my apps and leave it as is and I haven't had a with the ROM in the year I've had it.

Install Flashify : Flashify Link
Download this file:  CWM.zip
Unzip and put the file in your GPD XD ( MicroSD or internal ) : CWM_GPDXD.img
Open Flashify.
Tap on - "Recovery image".
tap on - "Choose a file".
Find and select CWM ( file you downloaded ) : CWM_GPDXD.img
And you should have CWM after that.

Use the second method to flash - i forget the option name.

I will give it a go! I'm guessing I put on CWM onto the device via micro sd?

Make sure you have it formatted FAT32, if not just put it on the gpd xd memory.

Everything work out ok?

Once you have cwm you can get ROM Manager as a super easy way to backup. You do it right from your droid home shortcut.

Sorry forgot to mention you will probably reboot to CWM. Use power to select options, but you should just , power, power, power.

No to reinstall something - forgot the setting.
No to reinstall root, and maybe one more "No".
i forget. - just No to everythign hehe.

haha no problem I should have explained better.

First off cwm is a custom recovery that starts before the OS gets loaded ( whatever android os you have, for us it is android 4.4.2 ). You are doing these steps to install this custom recovery. You will be able to backup your entire GPD XD byte for byte. To navigate the Menus in CWM you will have to use volume + , volume -, and power button.

So, you used my steps to install CWM.
Once you tap on reboot, your android will reboot into CWM. There will be 2 or 3 menus asking you to yes/no an option. Just choose "No" for all options. ( The power button ).

If you read the options, one is to install some type of safety in case CWM get's overwritten.
The other is an option to reinstall root.
and maybe a third option.
Whatever they are, just make sure you have "No" selected.

It seems intimidating. It's not. =). Once you do that I will walk you through backing your gpd up. Just let me know when you finish.
