luckily I only really found out about these a couple of days ago, thanks to YouTube (Floob's channel.. mainly about Raspberry Pi's.. he just got one of these) so promptly ordered a black 32gb one, it's nice being the late comer for a change :-D

yes I probably will still buy a Pyra, still like my GCW Zero, Pandora's and even still have my Game Park 32 BLU unit..

From the look of it, due to whatever mishap/misunderstanding/begging from the suppliers, those of us who ordered the 32 gig black model early are getting the second manufacturing run. It wasn't PLANNED that way, but I'll take it!   ;D Better than cancelling the order, or switching to blue with GPD not making them at all (I believe the original info was the 32 gig black was just the crowd-funded model?).

For the record, I placed my order with Geek Buying on June 26. I may be the winner of the ultimate patience prize....  :P

The DHL tracking has it arriving Monday. It's currently one state over - If it arrives at my local hub in the A.M. things will be looking good!

Has anyone else had their DHL tracking number from Willgoo for the 32 black yet? Mine says it shipped on the 9th, so was wondering how long it normally took to get the tracking info through.

Does the build quality seem any different? Mostly in regards to the buttons.

Does the build quality seem any different? Mostly in regards to the buttons.

Having had a JXD, and currently owning the G7 and G5, this is definitely the nicest thing GPD has produced. It feels solid, and the components (sticks, buttons, etc.) are of good quality. The action buttons (abcd) are the same as thier USB solo controller (the HERO) - which is also a nice build, come to think of it.

The black finish is solid - none of the flaking others have experienced. And while the d-pad and face buttons are softer, as others have noted, they are very responsive - just lacking a bit compared to the solid 'click' of the shoulder buttons.

Unlike the previous GPD models that I have, the ONLY way to charge this one is via the USB port. There is no separate power connection port. And there are two led power lights, one for power and one for charging.

Going into sleep mode when you close the lid is a very nice, professional touch. The screen itself is comparable to a good phone screen, the active display has solid blacks and whites, and the resolution makes text sharp. It may not be the ultimate screen, but it puts the G5 and G7 to shame.

The lid does not sit perfectly flat when closed, but angles out a bit on the opposite edge from the hinge - I don't know if that's because the rubber nubs where the screen rests against the unit are a tad large, or if that is a purposeful need to keep the d-pad from touching the screen (it looks SO close to it when you look through the side when the unit is closed...

My only personal complaint: I just wished they put that effort into upgrading the G7 or G5 - it is a shame that all the attention to detail is for a knock-off of the DS style, instead of cultivating their more original designs. They can't truly be a serious contender here in the US market (as they seem to want to be) by copying Nintendo. I know this is often the trend with these devices, but this type of quality combined with an original design would have been a real winner overall, not just with us 'tablet-jockeys'. Obviously that's just my opinion. The unit itself is one of the best that I've seen produced thus far!

But one question XD the face buttons still stick out only a little bit, making it hard to mash (otherwise perfectly usable) the X button because its the furthest from the edge, right? Really only a problem for some games (shoot them ups arcade which uses that button as fire) , but people might want to know...
