Hi Deen0X, any news about the full review at your site? You're probably still trying to find a way to properly root your device, since this opens so many possibilities. If you find out anything please let us know. Thanks. :)

this week i will continue (and most probably finish) my review, with the current firmware i?m using.
saddly, i can't test in deep, or almost, in the conditions i want to do. i must uninstall games, installa others, test, capture some vide, and there is nothing more than i can do.

i can?t do a simple screenshot! there is no button combination for use, and there is no one a single app on the playstore that can work on the device. Most of them uses root, and those that can work with other standard methods, reports that any of these methods are working on this device.

(I'm using a capture card to take snapshots on my PC, from the device)

there is another point: the mapper
this app have some issues for solving (right stick is not proper working in any mode)
i hope that a new firmware solve these problems, but for now i don?t have any. in fact, the device mention that there is a new firmware update (OTA), but i can?t download (always fails the download app)

i know there is people interested on this kind of devices with standard A/V output TV, but i?m not able to bring a proper review with good alternatives for solving the current problems of the device.

hope this week GPD get in touch with me, before releasing the review. (in fact, GPD sent a mail to me that mention will send another controller, and told that i can ask for the rooted firmware to the software manufacturer, but i didn't received any news from they since this mail)

anyway, i uploaded some vids on my youtube channel from this device running some games. the main problem is that i can?t use correctly the gamepad, because the mapper is not working correctly, but you can get a general idea about how this device is running some titles (with the current condition)

I see your point. I just don't understand why they still didn't provided you with a solution for a rooted firmware since the guys at gpd/softwincn apparently know what they are doing. Let's hope they send it to you, and you can finish the review in the possible best way since this device has some interesting features.

That's just too bad, even unacceptable. At first it seemed that Kelvind and the others at GPD had so many expectations for it, and now an unrootable device. Is this the JXD syndrome or what?

Good news. i get rooted the device!

the problem is so weird. i have two PC for connecting devices. in both i can?t get the device to be recognized.

but i re-installed windows 7 on my main pc and give a try again, installing drivers with rockchip driver assistant, and the device become recognized!
quickly i used Shuame genius root, and get root without problem!

the problem is with exists rockchip drivers. with a clean windows installation there is no problem.

take note that in the laptop i get the same problem, that the device is not recognized, but i can flash another rockchip devices without problem (in fact, i flashed now a GPD Q88+ without problem)

then, if you get problems with drivers to the device get recognized in PC, try to use another pc that never be used to flash rockchip devices... or simply reinstall windows.

the calbe is a normal USB to USB cable. you can buy it or made it. (take care, you may burn your port if you made it in wrong way). i strong suggest to buy one similar to this:

now, i'm updating the review...

Just a little update.

In the first video, i tried to run PPSSPP ? Tekken Dark Resurrection. i don?t have root this time.
The iso is loaded from an USB external HDD.

<a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20210305131340/https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e9fA4ANsPA0" target="_blank">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e9fA4ANsPA0</a>

In the next video, the device is rooted and i use a very similar config than the first video, and the gameplay is smoothest than the first.
The iso is loaded by CIFS, over a lan shared folder with the iso.

<a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20210305131340/https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zz67veJNmFY" target="_blank">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zz67veJNmFY</a>
(check from min 01:12)

as you can see, there are a big difference between these two gameplays that is translated to setting governor = performance on the second video, what is able only with rooted device.

now, another big difference:

Now i can install big games on microSD. ^_^

Edit: Review published.

sorry, i did not realize on your question.

yes, for sure you can insert a big microSD on the device. i?m not sure, but most probably 64GB will be recognized without problems

use another pc, one that you never used for flashing devices (or almost, Rockchip)

and for audio, there is a menu on audio or hdmi. you can select passthough or other option, try changing this option.
