Sorry if annoying, but, what about construction and materials?

I?m very interested in this machine and I'm eager for news  ;)

It's pretty solid in my opinion. Obviusly not the buil quality of a high end device like Shield or something like that, but good enough for me, especially considering price.

got mine earlier, pretty pleased with it so far. it feels very sturdy and quite weighty despite also feeling quite hollow (in the grips). the wifi works fine, it charges via micro USB (so you dont have to use to the supplied charger) and it's very quick.

there are a few software bugs here and there, such as:
sometimes reboots when you put it on to charge, or occasionally when faffing in the menus.
for some reason it will not remember what i put on the desktop, every time i reboot all my icons have gone.
when hiding the softkeys during emulation the game still won't occupy the entire screen vertically (just leaves a black bar, sometimes at the top?!), and unless i'm being a right retard it's impossible to swipe up to bring the keys back without quitting the emulator.

seems i wrote quite a few negatives but it's easily the best android handheld i've used, both in build quality and software stability. i hope the quirks get ironed out, because then it'll be close to perfect.

Thanks for answering all my questions skeleton.  I have the 5110b, which I love and if you say this is a better unit, I trust you!  One last question for now, does it have a vibration motor as stated in one of the descriptions I read?

no, there is no vibration motors, and i send a mail to manufacturer to ask to update their specs.

in fact, the specs on the official page are the original specs of this device, but most probably the physical device evolve to the unit we are testing, but there is some guy that forgive to update the specs with the last version released.

about reboots and lost of icons.
there is a possible bug in the official firmware. for now, try to avoid to use the option to install in microSD your apps. let the config by default (using internal storage)

Bummer about no vibration motor!  That would be nice to have for N64 emulation!

Could be that device come with very old firmware. I haven't had no issues with missing icons after reboot or any reboot. If you want to bring the bottom bar back just make a swipe up from the botton of the screen or press power and you'll see show button bar option.

By softkeys you mean the mapping tool? because it's not needed for emus, emus can be mapped natively in emu options.
the last stock firm is here if you want to try. (version 1.1.1)

You need Rkbatch tool, use this one:

https://mega.co.nz/#!4pxDQSSD!cmBLt4lzK2MI1ZDY39lccYmcE9F6WTqf65Hr_cOs4ks

Here is a tuto to explain how to install it (all RK3188 installs the same way)

http://www.freaktab.com/showthread.php?632-Flashing-Firmware-Image-Files-Using-The-Rockchip-Batch-Tool

To put your G5A in flashing mode just connect to PC (your GPD must be off), and power device with Volume + pressed. Probably the Batch tool will ask you to install drivers (they are included in the rar), Then just select the IMG file of the firmware called update.img and Press Restore.

And that's it, device will reboot after finish and will make wipes of partitions. First boot after fresh install is slow, so don't worry, just wait until it finishes.

Another option is just putting the update, img in microSD. Device will ask you to install package and will install the firmware, but I prefer first method, because it makes wipes more properly I think.

Are these only available in white?  I saw a black one at the beginning of this thread but it may have been just a mock-up.  I found the gdp g5a for sale on willgoo and dinodirect, but I didn't see color options.  Has anyone seen any other sites offering it for sale yet?  A minor detail, but I like black better....

@Grebbin77 - currently these are only available in white. I too would have preferred Black.

I ordered mine last night. :)

It's also available at DealExtreme (134,65$). It says "White + Black" color...
