Got TWRP for GPD XD?
« on: February 17, 2017, 11:17:12 pm »
I reached out to the lead developer for TWRP and got refered to this link: https://plus.google.com/+DeesTroy/posts/iyyM1kYULEa

Is there anyone in this community with the skills to make a twrp build for the gpd xd?

I just would feel much safer with this device having twrp installed in case of brick or just for the occasional backup to fall back on. Someone posted a version that works for GPD but with a risk of burning images onto the screen. Is something like Titanium Backup our only option?

Maybe you can try with the CWM from here:

http://www.arctablet.com/blog/forum/rk3288-entwicklung-und-customroms-development-and-croms/rk3288-rom-twrpcwm-flash-tool-custom-root-firmware-20150117/

I have never used it in XD but it works for me in my RK3288 tvbox since they are generic for RK3288. If not, maybe you can ask Oma to build one for you.

I don't have an XD with me right now so I cannot test or try to build one from scratch

what res is your tvbox vs the twrp/cwm?

the twrps seem to work with the gpd ( havent tried yet) its the resolution that is causing the problems. Just wondering if there was one that was 1280 x 720 or below that res that we can use.

My box is 720p or 1080p on my TV, but cwm doesn't need resolution like twrp, so perhaps is the one to use in xd, though i never tried It.

Ok i got frustrated when i posted this and gave up for a while, but I am in a jam now. I cant get AndroidTools or Rockchip Tool to find GPD device. I put in a bad bootanimation and i just need to delete it or overwrite it. I could use some help.

I have legacy rom null installed and no custom recovery installed.

So far I have tried to connect pc to gpd using a win10 laptop, and 2 pcs with win 7. None of them find the device with either tool. I have tried a few RK_Driver assistants with no luck.

Halp!

Running AndroidTool gives me error : [ Checking download item failed, stop running! ]

That's weird, with windows 10 try these drivers:

http://chinagadgetsreviews.blogspot.com.es/2014/06/how-to-easily-install-rockchip-rockusb.html

The drivers that come with legacyrom work on windows 7. Try a different cable or a different USB port in your computer, usb 2.0 port preferibly.

Connect it with the GPD powered off and just press volume + button and connect to PC if drivers are ok should be recognized.
There is also a method to enter stock recovery, I think combo was Power and both volume buttons at the same time. If you enter stock recovery you can reflash via sdcard with apply rkimage from extsdcard option (or something like that was)

Im trying to avoid reflashing, I don't wanna lose what i have now. I will if i have to but as a last resort. But regardless i would like to install cwm. These type of situations would be easily solved with it =).

So yeh I tried 3 different cables 3 pcs with maybe 10 different usb 2.0 ports and even 2 usb 3.0 ports just to try it, doesnt hurt. I have tried the RK Driver installers from like 3 diff websites and also tried running androidtool and rkbatctool. So im getting a bit frustrated. With all the sites i visited while troubleshooting someone had maybe thought it was a power issue. That just a usb alone wasn't giving enough power?? not sure.

any ideas?

Maybe some driver is corrupted in your windows machine. Because it's strange is not detected. Does android tool show some message like rockusb device found? Or just doesn't show anything? I can only suggest trying on a different computer. If you flash vía SD with stock recovery you shouldn't lose your data, and should repair your bootabimation.

RKBatchTool doesnt pick it up at all.

Here's a screeny of what the pc picks up.

AndroidTool picks up up but errors.

I'll try the stock rom then ( if it doesnt reset user data ), but i want to keep trying getting cwm on it.

If you can access vía adb to your device you can remove bootanimation if You are rooted. Also, are you connecting It with Gpd off and pressing volume + while connecting to PC?
Androidrtool picture says IS conected vía adb, not in flash mode as if It was conected powered on instead of powered off. Gpd Must be off before connecting and androidrtool should show a diferent messsge rather than the adb message. If It shows adb IS because your Gpd IS not off or IS not entering bootloqder Mode and just IS trying to boot

Don't press power. With the Gpd off, Just keep pressed volume + Button and Connect It to PC to see if It shows a diferent message. If It still show adb device found press switch Under androidrtool and It should Go to flash Mode.

Have you run su Command under adb? You need It to rooted access vía adb.

Run the following,
 adb shell
Su
And It should allow you to Go to system media.
About the error of that recovery no idea, probably is trying to flash in another recovery address which IS not compatible with XD partiton scheme. That's something that the maker of that recovery should answer.
I suppose you have the selected recovery under the rockdev/image folder. You can select the file manually also with Android Tool
In this post @jumpup  IS using It so defintely works on XD. I mention him and maybe he can Tello you how he flashed. I don't have my XD anymore so i cannot test It for you.
