Emulators for GPD g5A
« on: May 30, 2014, 03:01:40 pm »
I received my GPD G5A 2 days ago. I flashed it with the kitkat skelton rom and replaced the launcher with smart launcher2. I am lovin' this device, its weight, look and feel and offcourse the price tag :-). I had a little scare when transferring files from my win 7 pc, apparently it is not smart to use the usb cable to transfer files cause I bricked my device in the process, luckily I was able to recover it and get the device up-and-running again.

I have a question, there is no emulation section for the GPD devices so I am just gonna post my questions here.

What are the preferred emulators for de GPD G5A? At the moment I am using reicast for the dreamcast (duh!), retroarch for the genesis (8 and 16-bit), mame4droid for the neo-geo and arcade stuff, fpse for psx and ppsspp for the psp (also obvious)
Also what is a good emulator for the sega cd stuff, I have trouble finding a good emulator for megadrive/genesis CD games.

Thanks in advance,

Xervantes

I prefer ePSXe for PS1. I'm pretty sure RetroArch has most of the emulators including one for SEGA CD, but I prefer standalone emulators as they're just simpler.
YOU GONNA GET CHEX'D

For sega CD use Retroarch wth Picodrive or genesis plus GX core.

@Chex, you are right ePSXe is superior to FPSe. The graphics are better and the framerate is smoother.

I still haven't been able to get the sega cd emulation working. Retroarch keeps crashing as soon as I try to load the image. I am gonna rip some of my original sega cd's to bin/cue to see if that solves the problem. I read somewhere that for sega cd emulation to work on retroarch, the images must be in bin/cue format instead of ISO.

You might want to try the .emu emulators, they're much simpler than messing around with Retroarch and have vastly superior interfaces and options.  Don't get them out of the Play Store as they're paid downloads there.  Instead download the Ouya versions which are completely free and work just fine on the GPD G5A.  You can download those manually from a site like http://www.ouyalytics.com/.  That particular site may not have the most up to date versions but they're out there and legitimately free.

MD.emu in particular features pretty decent Sega CD emulation, but its not 100%.  None of them are on Android unfortunately.

for game boy advance i like to use the my boy! emulator for snes i use snes9x ex i would also recommend that you look into the gamesome  front end if you would like a clean way to view and launch all your roms.
