Comparison between Legacy roms: Games compatibility and battery
« on: September 28, 2014, 12:50:40 am »
I've been trying both legacy roms (jellybean and kitkat) for the last months. Obviously they are both great, no complaints about it. I just noticed some minor differences about game compatibility and battery time.

For the kitkat rom i used this setup:
Brightness: 75%
Nofrills Governor: Interactive
Nofrills I/O Scheduler: Deadline
No wifi and airplane mode

With this setup i opened the Snes9x EX, some roms and just let it there until the battery completely discharges. For the legacy kitkat rom i could get 5 hours and 18 minutes.

These days i tried with the jelly bean rom. Almost the same setup:
Brightness: 85%
Nofrills Governor: Interactive
Nofrills I/O Scheduler: Deadline
No wifi and airplane mode

I used the same emulator but a little more brightness. The total time was 5 hours and 44 minutes.

The kitkat rom consumes a little more ram in comparison to the jelly bean.

Regarding games most of them works just fine, but these won't work with the kitkat rom:

Final Fantasy 4, 5 and 6.

Need For Speed Most Wanted works, but audio stutters. Apparently it's some sort of incompatibility related to kitkat:

All worked fine until I updated my galaxy s3 to kitkat, doesn't matter if cyanogenmod or omnirom, NFS most wanted stutters audio and looks like a slow emulator, 99% of my music library can't be played after upgrade to KitKat, and the rest plays 10-30% and then skips to the next one, not changing in any way when I switch players, I also tried re downloading and testing the.songs on a windows/Linux machine and they had no issues.

For the jelly bean, need for speed most wanted works perfectly, audio runs just fine. But there's one game that won't work, Ridge Racer Slipstream.

There's just one game that won't work with any rom for the G5A, and that's Chaos Rings. I need to use my smartphone in order to play this one.
