Hi im a noob to gpdxd. Just got mine for xmas. I have been modding/rooting my phones for a while now by using all the online guides ( im no pro hacker) and decided i would try and make a few bootanimations for the gpd.

It's a pre sweet device.

** any bootanimations with prefix Patakk were made using GIF files from Paolo Pattak under the license

Instructions: (Must be rooted- only tested on legacy rom but im sure it works on just a rooted GPDXD)
Using Chrome browser and ESFileExplorer ( i use pro but shouldn't be too hard to use Free ver).
If you wish to backup your original bootanimation.zip the first thing you should do is navigate to "/system/media" and rename the original "bootanimation.zip" to "bootanimation.bak.zip" or whatever. - I don't because iv'e done it soo many times i don't care for the original.

- Open Chrome browser on GPD and navigate here.
- Click on the version for your device and download it- then exit Chrome.
- Open ESFileExplorer.
- On the top left should be the menu, click on it to open it up.
- Under "Tools" there is an option to toggle "Root Explorer" - make sure it is ON
- Navigate to "/ sdcard / Download.
- Longpress your bootanimation.zip
- On the top right there will be a " ][ " looking icon ( it's rename ) - click it
- Rename file to " bootanimation.zip "
- longpress the newly renamed "bootanimation.zip"
- Now click on the scissors icon ( cut ) - on the bottom right of the screen will appear the paste icon in blue
- Now navigate to "/ system / media" - you can start by clicking on the "/" at the top left of the screen to get to root dir then system then media
- Once inside click on the paste icon at the bottom right. Overwrite if there is a file already there.
- longpress on the "bootanimation.zip" and click on the options button ( 3 vertical dots ) and click on properties
- next to "permissions" click on "change"
- Make sure everything is checked ( if anyone knows the exact config please correct me)
- click "OK"
- click on "Cancel"

That should be it.

The gif is diff cause i screwed up the "Booting .." but comes out fine in the actual bootanimation.zip.
I also meant to have it reversed(frames) for the bootanimation zip but too tired to flip it. Still looks ok.

Just FYI : I test all of these just to make sure there isn't some way it bricks the GPD.

You must be rooted to have custom bootanimations.
The gpd q9 has a different resolution so you would have to resize the images and rezip and also change the "desc.txt".

I have been designing and labeling stuff with" GPD XD" but if you like I'll just leave it as GPD from now on. If you are rooted and want some of the designs I can start uploading diff bootanimations for the 2 diff models from now on.

I got the GPD XP for xmas and ive been working on customizing it. Making the boot animations I havent come up with an overall theme yet. I did come across a few icon sets that i liked, but couldnt find the files. Broken links and stuff. So I am redoing them too. Once I'm done ill upload them if anyone wants them.

I accidentally reformatted my main HDD - long story.
The only thing i happened to save from it was the icon project because it was still open. I got to save it to my desktop.
Ill pick it back up soon.

Thnx guys. Currently working on an Iron Man - Jarvis type theme. But here are some backgrounds.

the window at the top right section of jarvis background is for an app called Cool Tool that i use for device stats. Its free and cool =) .
You can see it working here.
