Best settings for N64 (Mupen64Plus-AE v3)
« on: March 02, 2016, 07:48:30 pm »
I'm using Mupen64Plus-AE v3 alpha for my N64 roms.
Using the latest (auto)build from Pauls Code site.

What are the best settings for this emulator on a GPD XD?
What do you guys use?

All tips are welcome!  8)

Do you experience much sound lag? Some games give me 500ms-1000ms of delay and I'm not sure how to fix it.

I assume that you have one of the latest AutoBuilds off of Pauls Code website...

Here are my AUDIO settings:

Audio Plugin:  mupen64plus-audio-sles, v2.0

Audio buffer size:  1024

Audio buffer number: 2

Synchronize audio & video:    (checked!)

Swap audio channels:   (Unchecked!)

Let us know if that improves your audio.

Watch my video above @tonyP... somewhere midway thru the video, I disclose to change the video driver setting to GLES 3.0... I believe & suspect that driver is the better one to use to obtain optimal play.

Let us know if that helps.

I'm using the same settings as you now vetran, seems like all games run well with these settings.
Only "problem" I have is that Super Mario 64 gives me black bars on top and bottom with this graphics driver.
I'm using the NTSC-US rom. All other games I tried are ok, they don't have black bars.
Only Super Mario 64 has it. With Gln64(accurate) I don't have this problem.

Hmm... hard to say what it could be... again, try changing the video driver to GLES 3.0.

If you are still experiencing those black bars for Mario 64, then change the "resolution" setting to NATIVE (highest). That may do the trick.

If it does NOT do the trick, let us know... I'm sure we'll somehow figure it out. Also, I'll make a short video to show you how it runs on mine so maybe you can figure out what is causing it, etc.

Thanks for the help vetran, appreciated!
I have set the video/graphics driver to GLES 3.0

Also I'm experiencing some audio hickups.
I have the same audio settings as you posted above (default settings) but GoldenEye and Mario Kart for instance give me some audio hickups.

There's no perfect config for all games. In fact, some games need different configs. Paper Mario, for example works better with Glide64 (any GlideN64 works really bad), but some texts are only readable using Rice... so you must switch sometimes while playing.

@ker... I would have to agree. It appears that certain games require different video drivers in order to run properly, etc. In my testing, however, I found GLES 3.0 to run best overall as the video driver.

If certain games have issues, try switching preferences a bit. I believe that every title within Mupen64+AE allow their own set of preferences to be saved upon configuration.

I guess it really depends on the game what settings to choose.
Though some games just don't work well. For instance GoldenEye 007 I can't seem to get a steady and good FPS all the way through....
