Arcade roms sorting project (RetroArch FBA core)
« on: February 24, 2017, 09:48:41 pm »
Hi to all great community here!

I want to start this project, created to sort the arcade games of my favorite genres.

I've sorted the approximately 400 roms from FBA 0.2.97.39 romset by 4 genres: Beat'em'up, vsFighting, Run'n'gun, Shoot'em'up.

I have chosen RetroArch and FBA core because it is the best arcade solution on GPD XD.

But since this is a huge amount of games, I do not have the possibility to check absolutely every one of them.
So I am hope for your help.

I made a batch script (simple .bat file) that should be placed in a directory with full FBA 0.2.97.39 non-merged romset, then you only need to run it.
It will create a subfolders with 4 genre names "Beat'em'up", "Fighting", "Run'n'gun", "Shmup" and copy all the relevant zips to it (including the necessary BIOS) - total size is about 4gb.
(I've also add some clones, such as tmnt and sunset riders 2 player versions, or clones that are differences depending on the region)

Then you need to move these folders to the device, download RetroArch, go to "download core" section, download core Arcade (FB Alpha) (not FBA2012 or other) and test, test, test roms.  ;D

According to the rules of this forum, I can not give you a link to FBA 0.2.97.39 romset, but you can easily google it.
Just google "fba 0.2.97.39 romset", find a link to the site archive.org and it will be there as a torrent file.
Or you can find it at pleasuredome tracker (but you need to register).
Remember you need non-merged romset.
I hope for you help, if you find non-working roms, please report it in this thread.

Let's make the best arcade rom-pack for GPD XD  8)

Rename .txt to .bat and go on

My latest sorting file.
About 400 roms sorted out in 4 genre folders.

Almost all games are tested for compatibility and work well on GPD XD with Retroarch FBA Core.

I've attached the latest batch script to this post.
Rename .txt to .bat, place it in a directory with full FBA 0.2.97.39 non-merged romset, then run it.
It will create a subfolders with 4 genre names "Beat'em'up", "Fighting", "Run'n'gun", "Shmup" and copy all the relevant zips to it (including the necessary BIOS)

Enjoy

Hello Moff!
I really enjoyed your list for the past few days but i was wondering if it is possible to add or make seperate script for racing (outrun, driftout etc) AND classic arcade games (pacman, space invaders etc.) or even how can i make my own script?
Thanks!

To filter a romset you use Romlister. There's a general tutorial on how to use it here: https://www.gameex.com/Portals/0/Romlister%20Tutorial.pdf

The only problem is that as far as I know it's for MAME only... I'm not sure where to get Mames List.xml with Controls.xml, and Catver.ini for FBA... If someone knows where/how to find these files for FBA, the rest is extremely easy to do.

Yes, you can use romlister.
But i prefer Mame File Manager - https://github.com/phweda/MFM/releases/tag/v0.9
In MFM you can sort out roms and then generate a list in simple .txt file, then you can make a script as i did, it's very easy, just check out my .txt file and you'll see how you can do this the same.

FBA romset uses the same rom names as MAME romset, and i was using MAME romset to generate lists.
