Any way to slow down PPSSPP emulation?
« on: February 21, 2017, 02:53:33 am »
I've been trying to play Brian Lara cricket but it's so zippy it's unplayable. I've tinkered with a few settings but nothing has worked so far. Any ideas?

i'm sorry , but are you joking ? you want to slow down ppsspp emulation ?  :P

anyway, try to uncheck autoframeskip, and use a high rendering resolution (2xpsp)

go to System and uncheck Fast memory, Multithread

Also, there's an option to set the maximum FPS to 60.I think it will prevent ppsspp from going over 60 fps. Give it a try and see the result.

I have never tried that game. But you can also try to reduce the emulated PSP Cpu speed. Putting a value of 133 mhz or so may help, but that depends on the game.

I've played the game and it's not "zippy" like the OP says so I'm assuming they're maybe new to the emulator-- would be worth checking again to ensure that you don't have the "alternate speed" feature active. Again, I can confirm that no game runs faster than required on this emulator so you've probably configured it wrong or a have a massive frameskip/ timerhack enabled.

This is an essential trick that I use on the XD to make many games playable-- just wanted to add that on this device, changes to the emulated clock speed of the emulator and the multithread feature only work after you exit the game and start again. Took me a while to figure this when I first got the XD so though I'd point out.

That happens in most android devices, not only XD. Usually those options need to exit game and load again. I only use reduced PSP Cpu for GoW, which is bery playable that way, but ony for that game. Perhaps other games need it too, but most games I played in PPSSPP are fullspeed, even some demanding ones like Tekken 6.

PPSSPP is quite demanding anyway, even my GPD WIN runs some games a bit slow. Shield TV is practically the only android device that manages PPSSPP in an amazing way. In XD lot of games are fully playable though,

Didn't knew about this one. Is this some sort of setting that should be used only in special cases or can be used for most of them?

I use for GoW mainly. The game will not run ay 60 fps, but more or less at a stable 25/30 without sound stuttering, making the game quite playable. Not sure if other games take benefit from it.

Yeah I've been using PPSSPP for a fair while with no issues until this. I deleted the game configurations and played with the PSP CPU speed - thanks for the tip about exiting. Would  you believe 70MHz is just about perfect?

I had exactly the same issue with Brian Lara cricket. It ran perhaps twice as fast as it should.

The issue resolved itself either via updating to Legacy Rom or by tweaking the settings. I suspect the former but I'll post my PPSSPP settings later.

Unfortunately, I don't have that game on my device anymore but 60-80 MHz is about as low as you would want to go-- typically, for any game that has FPS issues, I try to limit the clock at 110-130 MHz.
