It's a very initial Kitkat Release, so consider it beta if you want, so probably 4.2.2 is still a bit more stable. So my advice is to wait a little bit until I can prepare new firmware and kernel for kitkat.

Since there are a more than a couple of other devices that use the same SoC (JXD S7800B, Archos GamePad 2, iPEGA PG9700), would it be possible to port KitKat to them as well?

Not that easy, kitkat RK kernel is different in tablets than 4.2.2 kernel. So, quite difficult, and even if possible using a 4.2.2 kernel in kitkat is quite useless. The IPEGA will be updated I think, but the other two I have my doubts
