50 Days Later...
« on: July 05, 2016, 08:19:22 pm »
...and I finally have an XD.
 8)

Next time I order something from China, I'm springing for the express courier instead of regular post.
Just got it out of the box. Doesn't look like there are any issues. I can already feel the difference between the Q9 and the XD.
Just finished installing LegacyROM and now to load my 64GB SD card with games.

Pretty pumped right now.  ;D

This is the 4th one you're buying right? XD

Are you trying to unlock the achievement "I won the lottery and got a defective one"? XDDDDD

Why not just keep it longer then a month this time? XD

Oooh I'm loving this thing. However, WiFi performance seems a bit crap so I'm going to give it a cooling off period to make sure nothing else is wrong with it and then open it up and check the soldering on the antenna. I reflowed it on my Q9 and it went from 1-2 bars to 5.

I've seen pictures so I know they have the same antenna, but from my room I can get 4 bars on Q9 and 1-2 bars on XD.

I'll try to write a little guide when(if) I do it.

You can off course, but as long as it works I would not do it. As long as you can comfortably browse the web and watch youtube, don?t risk breaking it... XD (and void your warranty in the process).

I mean, it might be only 2 bars but as long as it doesn?t cut off completely it doesn?t really matter right? XD

I need to find an app that'll graph my WiFi reception so I can compare my Q9 vs XD. My Q9 I can get 2 bars in the farside of my room, upstairs from the router, and my XD is 1-2 bars on the side closest to where the router would be.

I do however seem to be getting the rated speeds, but I don't know if it's consistent or in bursts.
I'm also using an super old Linksys WRT54GL with Tomato firmware so if you have a more recent router you are probably fine.
I have a better router somewhere but my WRT54GL is a ton more reliable, and my internet is rural LTE so it's fairly slow to begin with.

There is an App called WiFi analyzer that maybe is useful for that. Maybe you have a bad antenna, my x.d get strong signal and speed even from my neighbour home.

I'll try that app. My Q9 was the same before I fixed it.

Sure thing. There's already a teardown here if you're wanting to see inside but I'll definitely show the soldering if it does need to be done.

Postmen must be working overtime in in China, I ordered my XD on 9th of Aug, received on the 24th. All done through slow free mail and ebay.

Yeah it was brutal. I just ordered a new screen from GPD a couple weeks ago and it got to me withing 5 days with DHL. It was $20 at the door for import fees but it was worth it.
I do not recommend regular China post. I also find Singapore Post annoying as I order a lot of stuff from ALiexpress and I have to go to the post office to sign for a usb cable or whatever.  :(

I concur!  I ordered my GPD on July 27th and JUST recieved it yesterday.  Good thing I bought one from dreamesper a few weeks back.  I would have went insane if I had to wait this long.
