Hello,

For q9 psv owner, what's the different installing 1.8 and 1.6 version? the processor will be lock based either I pick 1.8 and 1.6?

is 1.8 will use a lot of battery from the q9 psv and 1.8 will be consider overclocking?

The difference is Max speed. 1,8 consume more battery, though you can control speeds  with a CPU app

You can use 128gb. No matter the firmware you use.

Just got a new Q9PSV today, and the stock ROM is versioned Q9PSV-EN-V5.3.0-KTU84Q-20170309.102547 (still Android 4.4.4).

Looks like this is a newer build than LegacyROM, and already includes the PS3/XBOX/Null joystick selector as in the screenshot in the OP.

So I guess there is now the possibility that the stock build has updates/fixes that are not in the custom firmware!

Nope, the only change is newer mali GPU libraries that work worse than the ones on LegacyROM or stock rom until 5.2.1. So probably uoyabause (saturn emu) will run like crap .And a change that affect a chinese MOBA game. Also, like all stock firmwares, limited to 1,4 ghz

Anyhow, feel free to try to see if you see something relevant, because I don't own a q9 anymore. But to be honest I think the q9 firmware works fine as it is, the only important change would be a newer Android version, but I don't think that will happen unless Rockchip improves their SDK with better mali libraries in android 6 or higher.

Hi Skelton, this is just a curiosity question, but considering that the XD is already 2 years old, do you really think that Rockchip would update their mali libraries and GPD would someday release an official android 6 (or higher) version?

There is android 6 SDK but with bad mali libs. I don't think rockchip makes anything. Probably they need to Focus on rk3399 which has Many things to fix.

I am not sure this will help but may be worth looking into.  This company has TV Boxes using RK3288 with Mali-T764 running Nougat 7.0.

http://ugoos.net/blog/Android-Nougat-RK3288-Ugoos-brand-devices-pre-release

And here is one with the RK3288 with Mali-T720:

http://www.cnx-software.com/2016/11/24/himedia-q5-pro-q10-pro-tv-boxes-get-android-7-0-nougat-firmware/

I thought it may help someone out if they are looking to get Nougat on the XD.

The Himedia use their own SoC, not RK3288. About the ugoos one, I don't see any source code. It seems like a beta. There are several RK3288 tvbox with android 6.0 (I have a firefly RK3288 development board with android M),but with the same bad mali drivers, and worse perfromance for gaming, because as far as I know, they have not been updated. Also, tvboxes use a different bootloader which is not compatible with tablets. Anyhow, without updated source code, difficult to port a rom. And the ugpps link shows kernel 4.4.1 instead of 3.10 of current RK roms, so it is new code. (my guess they are taking RK3399 SDK which use that kernel to adapt it to RK3288) If GPD has the Rockchip SDK updated to android M or nougat they can share it and people can make a rom from scratch, though some things would need to be ported, like GPD Mappers or gamepad App.
But won't be me the one making a new rom, my development time has come to an end, and I don't own this device anymore.

Hi Skelton.
Thank you for all of the work you have put into creating this rom.
I have done quite a bit of searching and I couldn't find answers to these questions. I'm hoping you will be able to answer them for me.

1: Is it possible to port the unified storage system from the GPD XD firmware to the GPD Q9PSV?
2: What changes would have to be made to your GPD XD LegacyRom to allow for it to be flashed onto the GPD Q9PSV?

I ask because, since the internal hardware of these two devices seems almost identical, I imagine that the firmwares can't be all that different. My knowledge of Android's systems is not too great though, so please excuse my noobidity.

1-in theory is possible, but swap option for MicroSd as internal and would be lost. I asked when I made the 2.0 version and most people preferred swap or didn't care, so I just didn't use unified storage as in XD. I never tried. I won't be doing more versions (I am off from development and I don't have q9 anymore). so if anyone wants unified storage must do on their own. It would need several changes and probably a new recovery, basically a full recompile.
2 - they are quite similar, but kernel.img, rssource.img and boot.img are different, and some system settings too., Like status bar which is needed in q9 because of the lack of hardware buttons for back, menu or gpd mapper for example. But both roms behave very similar, just with the minor differences among both systems. Differences are not great but kernel is the most important difference that means flashing a XD ROM in a q9 won't work and viceversa, because some hardware components are different (diff screen, diff wifi chip, XD uses emmc and q9 cheap nand flash, etc....)

Thanks for the speedy response. I'm gonna play around with this a bit and see what I can come up with.
