Use a Windows 7 or XP. Rockchip devices have issues with drivers in win 8.

I JUST ordered one, I have a JXD s7800b and  7300b and even a old s601 lol. I am a sucker for these devices but this is my first GPD device I figure will be a good companion for my other tablets lol. For $106 CAD shipped (I am in Canada) I figured ah why not? OF COURSE I have already downloaded SKELTONS firmware so I will be all ready to flash it soon after receiving  ;D

Thank you SKELTON for all your work and efforts, I know you do not get enough praise for all you have done! YOU ROCK !  8)

UPDATE: Received TODAY ! somewhat of a surprise, just under 3 weeks but had heard nothing since initial order and invoice still stated as "Processing" but that said it showed up and for under $107 CAD shipped I cannot complain. Interesting note the model listed in device details is Q89 ! After some searching (and Google Translating) it appeared others had received the Q89 model and successfully flashed SKELTONS Legacy ROM. I can also confirm having just the moment done it myself. No surprise already a better look and interface, the default stock skin seems so "user friendly" but it seems like a interface for a child lol. Well that is all for now, going to do some setting up, so far definitely pleased for the price.

Apparently my firmware works in q89 models, though from GPD they suggest using q89 firmware in q89 models. Any case, I am waiting a q89 sample, so probably will update the rom for the both models q88+ and q89 in order they are similarly updated to my other gpd roms.

Well Skelton because I like to experiment I can tell you I searched and found your links to the updated Q89 ROM and also the original ? Chinese Q88 rom. I flashed yours immediately but thought you know maybe I will check out and play with the original stock ROM and maybe make a video and give my review so I could show the difference after applying YOUR ROM. Problem was, with both the Chinese (I just set the language back to English) and the Q89 English update ROM using batchtool I restored the interface back UNFORTUNATELY none of the pre-loaded games were there.    :o

Clicking Emulators or GAMES in the menu instead of seeing icons for all the games just a little message DEAR NO FILES (or something like that lol) my fault for being so hasty, I tried both roms a couple times in batchtool trying both the UPDATE and RESTORE options with exact same result, it looks the same as when I first turned it on but no games installed (apps are still present) so I guess I am stuck, I might as well flash it back to your ROM and when you update it for Q89 I will update to that, thanks, otherwise I think I am pretty happy with it for what I paid.  :)

I am finishing new firmware for q88+ and q89 batch. It will be android 4.4.4, with custom kernel this time and allowing 1,6 ghz, in the same line of my last rom for g5a for example. I hope I can upload it after a few days after some testing I need to do. Firmware will be unified so both users of q88+ and q89 can use it without risks.

Edit: Rom is almost finished. I will prepare two packages depebding on the model. Also, for q89 users I will include an optional kernel to unlock the 446 mhz restriction in GPU for RK3188-T

@Skelton AWESOME news! I am looking forward to it. Thank you so much.

I have to say my impression is good (for what the device cost) definitely cheaper plastic and screen cover then my JXD s7800 and the over all build quality is also not as good but in actually performance and responsiveness I am surprised so far my GPDQ89 is definitely better.

I do have a question though, on your firmware and the restored q89 firmware it seems when I insert my sd card, I am not sure how the system is using it. Under settings it shows up but using file managers or other utilities seems to read my storage as a total, meaning my card is 32GB, Clean Master reports I have like 36 GB storage (as if it is merging my card and some of the system storage space) when I chose options to move apps to my SD card it seems successful but examining the card under windows it does NOT contain those moved apps, the folders on my SD card seem to be what you would see in the INTERNAL storage. I guess it does not really matter though I think I will be limited on how many apps / emulators / games I can install because I cannot really move any of the installs over to the SD card. Is this normal for this system?

The system is partition in the following way:

2 gb in data, the remaining is internal sdcard and then your microSD. In this sense is similar to 7800B.

You can use microSd as the principal memory. Just select externalsd in settings/storage and reboot. That way you swap memories.

Hello friends.

Installing the room I have a problem in this step:

"With GPD power off, just connect it via USB Cable to PC. Wait until battery charging animation dissappears. Then just press and Hold Volume + button and Press Power. RK Batch Tool will detect device, and you'll see the number 1 with a green box. If you see with a pink box, just select Switch Button until you see it in green. If the system ask you for some drivers, then just use the one included in the Batch Tool (or using driverInstaller package to install rockchip USB drivers). If you have problems with the combo power and volume+ , use power and Select"

I have win 7 in my PC but when I try to do that, the GPD doesn?t turn on!!

Can you help me?

Thanks in advance!!

Have yout tried in a different computer or with other usb cable? Try the following, with the GPD off just press volume + without power and connect it to PC to see if it's detected.

Which device do you have? Q88 or q89. Flash the one according to your device. Also, if your device is the q88psv model my firmware is not compatible with that device.

Also, there is newer versi?n of the ROM. This one is old.
