So this tablet has been discussed on the GPD discord channel. It's basically an 8" Windows 10 Gaming tablet with an Apollo Lake N4200 SOC , 6GB RAM, 64GB storage, FHD IPS 1200*1920 screen, stereo speakers, 7.6V 3400mAh battery ~ the equiv to a 3.7V 7000mAh battery. It also has Switch like detachable controllers. It's a white label produict meaning VastKing are looking to sell it to another brand for them to sell under their own name.
So now is your chance to own your own branded console. As MJPIA pointed out, Nintendo may question how similiar the design of the detachable controllers are to the Switches - but hey, what would starting your own console brand without risk be :P

Well you COULD say Nintendo ripped the whole Switchcon gimmick from the fellows at Aikun, so if Nintendo does decide to go after a random reseller of this thing I wouldn't be able to take them seriously.
EDIT: After actually watching the video.....yeah it's just a straight up clone. I'll definitely just wait for Win 2.

I agree with you, however, it's not the removable controllers that is an issue. It's the fact that those removable controlllers are very similar in design and shape as to the Switchs
-
Yeah....definitely true....
I do really have to wonder how strong the connection between the tablet and controllers are. I already don't like the look of how the Joycons connect to the Switch tablet, but at least you can sort of...kinda...trust Nintendo to make their stuff to be sturdy. With a Chinese version, I foresee a lot of angry customers with shattered tablets and maybe shattered feet if this thing is heavy enough.
-
Too big and not powerful enough. Surprised no other Chinese company is seeing the success GPD is having, the Android gaming handheld market got way more competitors in its hay day.
-
I'd better wait for raven ridge based tablets release. There is a smach z, but its 6 inch screen is too small for me. Also, n4200 is poor for gaming. It's better than gpd win's atom, but much worse than core m.
-
So many nay sayers, this is a much better ff for gaming than the win/2. And n4200 will be lighter on the battery than core m. I agree that rr/bandedkestrel would be a better fit though. My interest is peaked.

It?s a good option to have if the WIN2 turns out more expensive than what I?m comfortable spending on these kind of devices.
Only wish it had a real D pad but it?s still pretty interesting, it won?t be as powerful as the WIN2 but game much better than the original WIN.
-
Well to be an option , some company has to buy it , put their name on it and sell it.
My understanding is that they are selling it with 64GB storage, 6GB Ram etc etc at $300 wholesale per unit for a MOQ of 1000 units. So Retail would be about $390-450.
-
So all we have to do is scrap together $300,000 and we can start selling our own tablets!
We should do kickstarter

Then later when you would have buy everything and you make your own brand Nintendo will have all the keys to sue you
-
I'd be very interested but I have to say that the wifi controllers would have to go and it would need 8GB ram.
We could sell it for $449 and sell warranties through square trade or something.
-
More gaming devices are always good! It'll be interesting to see if this goes into production.

It's already produced, but vastking is an ODM, so it needs to find a buyer for their device and then the buyer will release the g800 under its own name. I hope gpd or even jxd will be interested in this.

I think you'd be better off buying a Cube Mix Plus which is on sale for $270. Pair it with a $20 Ipega 9023 attachable controller. Better SOC - it has the M3-7Y30, internal M.2 slot etc.
The Vastking is likely to retail for about $400 - $450

Do we know if the gamepads are powered/charged by the tablet? I don't have a switch so I don't know the ins and outs of the system.

This is interesting device with classic design, and for a price of $450 or less it will have a demand as less expensive alternative for $650+ of Win 2, but it's not exactly the Win 2 killer since its specs are lower (not counting HD display), it has no keyboard, it's less portable and I'm not sure how can it support SSD extension? Detachable joysticks mechanism may provide an interesting upgrade options, if there would be ones.
But, as I've seen on Youtube, they're looking for licensing their product for a some companies outside China, so I really doubt this thing will cost even $450. Well, if they will find the way to avoid the court actions from Nintendo...

I'm very interested to hear any news about a release.

No news is good news right? Right?

You could try emailing VastKing directly, to see if they have any more news.

I emailed them but did not get a reply.
Mind you I also emailed them back in the day and got the full specs and pricing off them, so them not responding now is not a good sign
-
Hopefully the silence means they are redesigning it and upping specs. But probably not

and upping specs
Yeah, I hope so. If they'll release it with n4200 in 2018 that won't be a good udea.
-
If they don't upgrade the parts then they should make it android. Since gpd won't make a bar design and no other company cares about Droid anymore there might be a market.

No news is good news!
As mentioned in the previous page, hopefully, they're doing a major upgrade on the SoC because current ones extremely outdated.

It's dead. There's no trace of it on the company's website, no word at all about it in almost a year. One prototype showed up at a trade show, and it's gone. Either there wasn't enough interest, there was some problem with the design, or Nintendo sent them an angry email for ripping off the Switch and they backed off.
-
Ah ok, I see. Oh well, one day someone will release the ultimate non-clamshell Windows gaming tablet with built-in phyical gaming controls. Thanks for the heads up, mate.
Also, I'd love to play a game or three with Jennifer Lawrence...yum
