StopDrop&Retro is the only reason why people are still caring about Smach Z

Yeah I hope they keep up the pretence that they are actually going to produce a console, that way SD&R gets more content for videos!

I just saw a news that says the smachz can be tested in TGS!
Except... It can't be switched on, it's just an empty case!
But they do have a lot of CG to prove that they are working on something real after all those years of not showing any working prototype!
Man they really have no shame, bringing such an obvious scam in the TGS and making people buy the product full price (minimum 800$!!) on their website...

I had read news that AMD would be showcasing it at their TGS booth. Now I wonder if AMD actually paid any attention to this thing.

Smach had their own booth at TGS.   Not sure, but they may have also had a display in the AMD stand and the Spanish dev stand.  Here is there stand they had at TGS

Here is a member of the GPD team checking them out below. GPD were also at TGS

So on a more serious note has anybody on here actually given these guys money? Although it's fun to mock the SmachZ team for being clueless dreamers there are quite a few people who will lose some serious money on this I think.

To be fair, they do have investors covering them.  One of which has a person on the team. Also the HW company they are using to develop the PCB does seem to be half decent.  They have shown a video to backers this week of their PCB booting up to Windows 10.   They have also shown the molds for the Smach Z case.  I would say that it might be a chance for sometime next year.  Still a risk though, and I wouldn't recommend anyone back it until the finish the thing and it releases

Investors aren't a limitless source of funding though and the Smach guys have already shown they can burn through other peoples' money and have nothing to show for it with the whole Rhombio saga. They are on their second injection of cash and still have their original orders to fulfil whilst building up debt and dividing their company up. Maybe they have the funds to produce a very large initial batch and/or have big orders from retailers, with the limited appeal and high price of this thing I would doubt that. You have to wonder how many they could actually sell before it reaches saturation point.

Not entirely sure why everyone is so sour with the smach z .
I get that they took a very long time to bring the product to where it is but when they release.....great if they don?t......no big deal.

It's because they tell lots of lies and mislead their backers with blatant fakery. Hopefully they do ship units out as these aren't cheap and it wouldn't be nice to see so many people lose out.

Still looks bloody awful, would be interesting to see a 10"-12" budget laptop with this APU and a decent trackpad & keyboard though.

I mean, I'll believe it once independent reviewers get their hands on a finished device... but it seems promising.
