Project scout

i was wondering if u guys have seen this custom handheld yet looks interesting.

Its nice but why go to all that effort and not have a proper dpad.

It's a great achievement to make something like that since I guess it's only one guy doing it with his own money, and even though hw says that's a prototypr, it doesn't look comfortable. When he uses de right stick and the right trigger it looks like the right trigger is almost out of reach. And he shows the device from the front all the video, but when you see the top in some angles you can see it's REALLY thick, like 4 or 5 times the size of a smartphone.

Anyway, it looks fun.

yeah i was looking at that probably was just easier for him to print. wonder what mother board he is using that's got an i3 on it.

Pretty neat.  Hope he keeps at it and gets a little more practice in with fusion 360.  Designing things can be a pain.  Says the v2 is using an Intel NUC7I5BNH kit (https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/products/boards-kits/nuc/kits/nuc7i5bnh.html) 15w tdp, i5-7260u cpu.  Any ideas on how the i5-7260u would compare to an m3-7y30?

It?s at least twice as powerful as M3 7Y30 in both clock speed and GPU performance, but it runs at 15W-9W.

Some Einsteins' need to hurry up and invent a better battery cause I think it might draw too much juice to be away from an outlet for very long.  Sucks.

I dunno, I bet it gets pretty heavy on the wrists.  Clamshell might be a bit comfier tilting the screen rather than your wrists.

Hey all, Project Scout creator here. I just saw this thread and wanted to say hello! Please let me know if you have any Scout related questions. :)

Edit : I also wanted to mention that Scout has Thunderbolt 3, and can enable external graphics. Here is a little testing I've been doing for a potential charging dock.

It looks like a great little device.  You should be proud.  It looks like you are 3D printing some of the parts.  What do you use as a designer?  I was trying to design a controller extension for my Switch but I hate the stuff that came with my 3D printer.  I have an XYZPrinting Pro.  Big sucker that holds my PS4 TV mostly.

Keep up the great work, it?s very impressive.
One suggestion is maybe try to pick a bigger screen to reduce the borders , it would look much sleeker and who doesn't like a bigger screen!

Thanks! I designed the enclosure in Fusion 360 and printed it on my Ultimaker 3 Extended. Fusion 360 is pretty good once you get used to it. The source control makes it easy to jump around on different computers and share files. I definitely recommend it!

I read it and it was a very humbling experience! It is a strange feeling seeing all of the positive responses to the project. The internet is not always a positive place, but when it is it sure feels great. :)

Thank you! There are a couple other options for screen that I'm still researching, but there aren't a ton of low-cost options in this display size. I'll keep it in mind though, for sure.
