How do you get computer to recognise in USB?
« on: December 10, 2010, 01:38:40 pm »
Hey guys, received my GA330 yesterday. Can't get the thing to recognise as a external device on my Macbook in USB.
Any ideas?? Broke my Mini SD reader being a bit heavy handed (was at a works do last night and had a few too many!)  ;)

As with all mac problems, easiest way is to treat it as bsd :D

So open the terminal, and check the last few lines of dmesg, and lsusb for whatever the gameis I'd is

The problem is, when I connect the GA330 to the usb socket, nothing happens. The unit charges but it doesn't show on the Finder at all. When I opened the terminal, nothing showed...

...did you type dmesg? or lsusb?

(typical mac user, totally unaware there's anything beneath that shiny UI :P)

I didn't, no. Whilst I'm not a complete tech-tard, I haven't been using a Mac for long, so less of the mean please  ;)
I'm looking to expand my knowledge. Cheers for the help, will give it a go.

*EDIT: Nothing.

Unable to obtain kernel buffer: Operation not permitted

-bash: lsusb: command not found

um... is OSX even one of the supported operating systems for the GA330?

Regardless if it's supported, it should still show as an external USB device, surely?

*EDIT: Ah, apparently not it would seem. Just tried it on a Windows Vista PC and it shows up. Bugger. Well, I don't know what to do now, I can't afford Windows for Mac right now :(

oh yeah, macs, it'll be
sudo dmesg

or something like that, and google for the mac equivalent of lsusb, haven't had to deal with one in ages

theoretically, osx comes with all the drivers you'll ever need, as the harware is dictated by apple, so it's quite posisble the Ga330 doesn't work under the usual mass storage device driver, though it's not that hard to add new drivers to osx, just never remove any, else it's a trip to the apple store to deal with idiots that don't know what a kext is

but whatever, the first step is seeing if it's even plugged in, using something like lsusb/etc, could just be the cable, some don't have the data pins, meant to be just for charging, and some dont have power pins, just for data transfer

...could always just use linux :P

Is this the Terminal info you require?

Yeah, console is plugged into USB with the white lead that comes with it. ON switch at the top is set to ON, and the machine is on.

Try a different cable, it should at least say something about a new device on bus XX or something, otherwise its not even detecting that it's there, let alone trying to find a driver for the thing...can you test it in something non mac?

Yeah I plugged it into my housemates Windows Vista laptop and it found it. It's a pain, as I would ideally like to use my Macbook to transfer files etc. I'll try another lead, but if it shows up on the PC then it won't be a fault will it?
Sorry buddy, I'm being a bit rubbish today.

EDIT: Tried another lead, still not recognised... However, this came up in terminal:
