Title: Quake II resolution issue
Post by: Jonosborne on June 21, 2013, 04:46:00 am
I accidentally changed the resolution on Quake II and now it just crashes when I load it.  I have tried reinstalling it but it doesn't erase the settings.  Does anyone know how to change the resolution setting back?  Thanks.

(shot in the dark) you might need to check the home directory (using commander) for config files for quake 2 (ERASE them), reinstall. might be your best bet.

Ok I'll give that a shot. I'm unable to see any files in those folders on the ftp server. Is commander a different program that allows you to see additional files?

Files (and folders) starting with . are hidden by default on UNIX filesystems. I don't know if that's on the client or the server side, but if it's on the client side, you can check your FTP client for "Show hidden files" option.
Apparently in filezilla it's localted in View -> Show Hidden Files.

Alternatively you can just telnet inside and remove the folder through command line.

For some reason I can't get Telnet to connect to the gcw.  It is probably something I'm doing wrong in terminal.  Filezilla still won't display those hidden files even when you force it to under the options.  Zear could you provide me the steps to remove through terminal?  Thanks.

Jonosborne, try the dingux commander app installed on your GCW.  It should do the trick!  :)

Looking at my config.cfg file, last two lines read:
Set vid_fullscreen "1"
Set viewsize "100"
That might help if editing the file

Code: [Select]
rm -r ~/.whatever_the_q2_folder_is

Im glad you got it back to normal!  :)

I encourage you to share the fix that worked. Try to explain in detail, so after reading this, others can fix if this happens to them.

I guess a mod can close this thread after youve shared your fix

I opened Dingux Commander app, navigated to the config file for quake ii and then deleted it. Easy enough! Thanks again.

The resolution selection should be removed from quake 2, as (at least before we have tv-out), there is no benefit from it.
