How to set up SEGA/MEGA CD BIOS in PicoDrive 1.35?
« on: October 21, 2015, 04:28:11 am »
Hi, there,
I am working on using PicoDrive to play a few SEGA CD games (both Europe) that I recently copied over from my laptop to my GCW Zero. However, since both my files are in ISO format, with MP3s for CD audio, I need to use version 1.35 to get the CD audio working in that way, as it doesn't work in the later versions.
But how do I set up PicoDrive 1.35 to recognize the BIOS files? I have the BIOS files, but I don't know how to use them with PicoDrive 1.35. In the options menu, the options aren't changeable, and say NOT FOUND all the time. In the later versions, this is done by loading the BIOS file and then selecting the "change disk" option, and then resetting the game, but version 1.35 just treats it like a normal ROM. So, how do I get the BIOS to work in PicoDrive 1.35? Is there a specific directory, and/or name that I need?

Don't know but if you convert your music files to ogg you can play them on Genesis-Plus-GX instead. Ogg is better anyway :)

Not helpful. In fact, I had to convert the music files to MP3! They were originally in .APE format, and it took forever to get the disk image and songs converted. I tried loading Genesis Plus-GX and it didn't show anything but a black screen. Someone said you have to update your firmware to fix the problem and I don't want to. And I HATE OGG.

Upgrading the firmware is just as hard as installing Genesis Plus GX, which is an improvement over PicoDrive, by the way. But it looks like you're not very kind to people who are trying to help you. Just shouting that people are not helping you and that you hate ogg, for whatever reason, will make people less likely to help you.

Why don't you want to upgrade your firmware? Upgrading your firmware is easy, brings new features and will improve your software compatibility. See here for help on upgrading your firmware.

I hope you have success getting your old version of Picodrive working.

I am going to try putting the BIOS files in the root folder of Picodrive under certain names, and see if it helps... Also, I didn't mean to insult anyone.

No trouble, be sure to check the log file as well. I'm not familiar with picodrive source code but often the Bios file name is case sensitive.
