UAE4ALL is an Amiga 500 emulator based on UAE 0.8.22 core.

Version: Release 1
Download: http://www.gcw-zero.com/file.php?file=uae4all.opk
Source code: https://github.com/zear/uae4all

List of authors and contributors:
* UAE authors (see ./docs/CREDITS)
* Chui - original UAE4ALL author
* Nebuleon & Zear - GCW Zero port and improvements
* Hi-Ban - new UAE4ALL logo and minor graphical changes (Hi-Ban's contributions licensed under Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International)

Important note:
This version of the program is a *port* of the original emulator.
The authors of this port are NOT maintaining the emulation core.
For any issues related to the emulation performance, please contact the *original* UAE/UAE4ALL authors.

Before first use:
Provide a valid Amiga 500 Kickstart bootstrap firmware and copy it to the following location:
Code: [Select]
(FTP)/home/.uae4all/kick.romUAE4ALL will refuse to launch without this file present.

Launching programs:
UAE4ALL will work with disk images in "adf" and "adz" format.
1) Copy appropriate files to a location of your choice in the GCW Zero filesystem
2) Launch UAE4ALL emulator
3) Select "Load disk image" option
4) Choose "Load DF0 image" (Floppy Drive #1) or "Load DF1 image" (Floppy Drive #2) to load a disk image to the appropriate drive.
NOTE: Bootable disks need to be loaded to DF0.
5) Point the file selector to a directory location with the disk images and select the image you want to load.
NOTE: This directory location will be stored as a default directory for future UAE4ALL runs.
6) For bootable images, select "Start Amiga" or "Reset Amiga" to boot a new image. For non-bootable images, select "Return to Amiga" and follow instructions of the currently emulated program.
Adjusting the frame rate:
Setting the frameskip value to "auto" will limit the emulated program speed to 50 frames per second. Use this option for programs meant to be run on PAL Amiga machines. Most Amiga programs were designed for this frame rate.
Setting the frameskip value to "0" will limit the emulated program speed to 60 frames per second. Use this option for programs meant to be run on NTSC Amiga machines.

Controls (during emulation):
D-PAD/analog joystick - control amiga joystick (if mouse emulation turned off) / amiga mouse (if mouse emulation turned on)
A - joystick button #1
B - joystick button #2
Y - mouse button #1
X - mouse button #2
L - enable/disable mouse emulation
R - enable/disable on-screen-keyboard
START - super throttle
SELECT - emulator menu

Thanks a lot for this porting! :)
The emulation speed and quality seem very good... some games run a bit slow (like Turrican II), but the "throttle tweak" can easily solve the little issue...

I have a request/suggestion:
A ?multi" kickstart selection menu at the startup will be useful (obviously, if the software finds only one kick.rom, the ?kickstart selection menu? can be skipped).
Basically, for a complete OCS/ECS compatibility, three kickstarts are required, 1.2, 1.3 and 2.0?  for a proper identification they should be put in the work-dir (.uae4all) with different names: e.g. kick12.rom, kick13.rom and kick20.rom

EDIT: some game (rare) needs to "disconnect" the second floppy disk drive for a proper loading (e.g. the Adventures of Quik and Silva)... an option to enable/disable the second disk drive (DF1:) would be another good addition! :)

Nice one thankyou very much. will be giving this a shot!

I know on Pandora they managed to get Harddisk support working with Tinylauncher. Is that something that could be accomplished in the future. Please don't take this as criticism, this is more than enough, I'm just wondering.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!  You have made my day!
It is my birthday today, so what a present!
All I wish for now is AGA/CD32 support (UAE4ALL 2.0), but this will keep me going!
I feel a session of the Great Giana Sisters coming on, as well of course the Turrican series :)

To reply to some of the requests, let me quote my first post:
Important note:
This version of the program is a *port* of the original emulator.
The authors of this port are NOT maintaining the emulation core.
For any issues related to the emulation performance, please contact the *original* UAE/UAE4ALL authors.
Neither me nor Nebuleon are familiar with, or interested in fixing the UAE emulation core. This is simply recompilation of an existing emulator with fixes to the GUI.

some games run a bit slow (like Turrican II), but the "throttle tweak" can easily solve the little issue...
Are you sure this game wasn't just designed to run at 60fps? If that's the case, set the frameskip from "auto" to "0".

That's certainly doable, but as long as the choice of switching the kickstart is left out as a task for the user (so no magical autodetection based on the program you're trying to emulate).

Can you explain in "layman terms" what the support of custom kickstarts would bring? Higher compatibility with Amiga 500 software? Note that we have no prior experience with Amiga computers.

EDIT: some game (rare) needs to "disconnect" the second floppy disk drive for a proper loading (e.g. the Adventures of Quik and Silva)... an option to enable/disable the second disk drive (DF1:) would be another good addition! :)
That probably falls under emulation core issue, which we are not interested to mess with.

Are you sure this game wasn't just designed to run at 60fps? If that's the case, set the frameskip from "auto" to "0".

Turrican II: I tried with frameskip to "0", but the video/audio don't run smoothly... the best choice is to leave "auto" frameskip and set the throttle to "40".

That's certainly doable, but as long as the choice of switching the kickstart is left out as a task for the user (so no magical autodetection based on the program you're trying to emulate).

Of course... the user could choice manually a different kickstart (if available) at the startup (before to enter in the main menu).

Can you explain in "layman terms" what the support of custom kickstarts would bring? Higher compatibility with Amiga 500 software? Note that we have no prior experience with Amiga computers.

Indeed, higher compatibility with Amiga software... I can give an example:
- After the War (1989)(Dinamic) and Blood Money (1989)(Psygnosis) work only with kickstarts 1.2 and 1.3;
- Bubble Dizzy (1992)(Codemasters) works only with kickstart 2.0.

*in few words, to assure a total software compatibility, three kickstarts are required: 1.2 - 1.3 - 2.0

PS: is there a way to set the Amiga hardware emulation from PAL to NTSC and vice versa?

PS: is there a way to set the Amiga hardware emulation from PAL to NTSC and vice versa?
Nope. The original UAE4ALL was emulating only at 50fps, but we increased that to 60fps (on frameskip "0") while adding v-sync, which made it work also with NTSC titles at correct speeds.

Nope. The original UAE4ALL was emulating only at 50fps, but we increased that to 60fps (on frameskip "0") while adding v-sync, which made it work also with NTSC titles at correct speeds.

This is just a reflection:
the difference between NTSC and PAL systems isn't only in the vertical refresh rate (59.96 Hz and 50 Hz), but also in the video resolutions (NTSC: 320x200px 640x200px - PAL: 320x256px 640x256px)... then set the frameskip to "0", it should not be convenient with the games/applications that use PAL resolutions (a "work overload").

Before first use:
Provide a valid Amiga 500 Kickstart bootstrap firmware and copy it to the following location:
Code: [Select]
(FTP)/home/.uae4all/kick.romUAE4ALL will refuse to launch without this file present.

Sorry, this may be a dumb question, but I had a previous version of uae4all installed (rc3). I had trouble in overwriting the old version, but now I can see the new logo. Unfortunately nothing happens when I start UAE, so I assume something is wrong with my kick.rom directory (which is /media/home/.uae4all, isn't that correct?) or with some leftovers from rc3. I am pretty sure that my kickrom itself is OK, as it worked in the previous versions. Can anyone help me? Thanks a lot!
Title: Re: UAE4ALL Release 1
Post by: zear on December 04, 2014, 07:35:12 pm
There is no previous version of UAE4ALL that we ever released - this is the first public version of this emulator.

Sounds like you obtained UAE4ALL from other sources (ie. tried to run Dingoo A320 build). This is something GCW Zero was not designed for and thus I cannot help you in this case.

I assume something is wrong with my kick.rom directory (which is /media/home/.uae4all, isn't that correct?)
This is the correct path. Make sure your kickstart file is called "kick.rom" (with lowercase). If that still doesn't work, then you must have a non-working dump of a kickstart.

Unfortunately nothing happens when I start UAE
Describe "nothing" in more details. OPK failes to launch and returns to gmenu2x? OPK freezes? OPK launches and you see the emulator frontend with a missing kick.rom message?

It should not behave this way. Let me attempt to reproduce this behaviour.

Edit:
Unable to reproduce it. All works as expected on my side. On first run the ~/.uae4all directory is created and the emulator asks for a missing kick.rom.

No. UAE4ALL will create the folder if it doesn't exist and continue running without the need of a restart/reboot:

I'm a little slow to see this thread, but good work Zear, much appreciated. I was always an ST guy, so this will give me a chance to see what all the fuss was about. And to play Stunt Car Racer TNT, finally.

Thank you.

And you will learn that the Amiga ist still the better machine ;)

Zear, I am not sure what qualifies for a pub?lic release, so I think my wording was imprecise, I was referring to the port by Ker. I also used the Dingoo build, but the version by Ker was far better. The OPK can be found here:

http://boards.dingoonity.org/gcw-development/uae4all-status/msg104991/#msg104991

However, reboot fixed the issue also for me. Emulator is working fine, Speedball is at excellent speed. Can someone try Supercars II? I tried two different .adf sets, both with Guru meditation... I have not tried another kickrom yet...

you need to reboot to make this one work

I tried with all main Amiga OCS/ECS kickstarts (1.2, 1.3 and 2.0) and in every case the game crashes after the main title with a "Guru meditation" message...

Thanks a lot. Same here, so it is not the .adf or the Kickrom. I remember that SuperCars II was picky on my real Amiga as well...

Thanks a lot. Same here, so it is not the .adf or the Kickrom. I remember that SuperCars II was picky on my real Amiga as well...

Probably is an "emulator core" issue... e.g. Lion Heart has the backgrounds corrupted during the gameplay (independently of the kick rom or the game version).

PS: in any case, sometimes changing the kickstart version or the game release it can solve the problem... e.g. After the War and Blood Money work only with kickstarts 1.2 and 1.3; Apidya (Kaiko - Play Byte) version works, while Apidya (A.U.D.I.O.S. - Play Byte) version doesn't work.

You could always try the Atari ST version in DCastAway which works (although as an Amiga fanboy it doesn't seem as good as the Amiga version!)

Could anyone tell me if they can get a game working - Salmon-Pink Max (aka Biplane Duel 2).

It's a public domain game.

Here's a screenshot:
(https://scontent-a-ord.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xpf1/v/t1.0-9/10398028_10154909586475534_4152428246429469914_n.jpg?oh=c35d492e206589e2036c411f16d2c036&oe=550CDA05)

Here's a link to the game: https://app.box.com/s/wlqwg8c592lvigdmxjvu

The game loads up and plays but you can't shoot the other plane and vice versa - the bullets just pass through.  You can hit the other plane with your plane and you can crash into the ground but bullets don't work they way they should.

A friend tested the game on his Android phone and got the same problem but when he tested it on his PC with winAUE with the quick a500 settings with Kickstart 1.3 it worked although he bumped up the floppy speed to 800%.

He said the quickstart setting was ocs chip set, 512k chip 512k slow mem, cpu 68000 if that helps.

It's a gem of a game and I'd be pretty awesome to play it again.

I tried it and have the same issue. I tried Kickstart 1.2 and 1.3, neither worked.

I had a couple of minor issue with other games as well. Should we do a compatibility list in a new thread? It could help nowing which kickstrat to use etc, but the Release thread maybe not the place for it...

As I wrote some time ago, a start-up menu, where the user can choice a different kickstart, it would be very useful... (essentially the kickstarts needed are three: 1.2 - 1.3 - 2.0).

I hope that Zear and/or Nebuleon will find a bit of time to implement this function! ;)

the Amiga emulator passes the "Moonstone" test.. plays perfectly from what I can tell..

this game is the reason (oh ok and PS1 games) that I would still pick up my Pandora console even though it's more comfortable to play on the GCW Zero..

don't get why you are asking for an Android release here.. but anyhoo, I've had some weird save game issues, it keeps reverting to my first save, and forgetting other saves I do, Moonstone is the kind of game that's important to be able to save, as it's kinda hard and well, buggy :-D

Many thanks for the emulator! Finally, some good Amiga, everything works fairly smoothly.

One thing I noticed, in many demos/games, the music seems slower than what I remember. I know it might be an issue of Pal/Ntsc differences. I am wondering if these demos/games came in separate versions, or it's the same programm that just autodetects if 50 or 60fps. Could it be I have to use another kick rom? Most demos are european, so I guess they are PAL versions, so maybe I should check if the kick roms are US or UK.

Also, in many demos, whenever they display flat polygons, only the outline is visible. And the line rendering has such pattern, that really reminds me of a technique to fill polygons from C64, xor filling. My guess now is that on the Amiga, most of the demos use the blitter with XOR operation for the same technique. I don't know much about Amiga or the blitter, but I assume that the mistake could be there.

But most of the games are great. I ran Brian the Lion yesterday, with it's blitter rotozoomer effects and they run surprisingly great.

Did anyone succeed to run Lotus 2/3? I get a guru meditation error. It could still be a kickstart version issue though.

I've been inactive for a few weeks now i just discovered that this awesome piece of software was released!!!

I tried it and i must say that I'm very impressed by the performance of this emulator  ;D

A few hiccups here a nd there but ~85 percent of all games i tried (which were a lot) are fairly playable. Keep up this excellent work, and a big thank you. This is the emulator I've been waiting for.

Any chance of mapping the Space key to one of the spare unused face buttons?

Would be very useful, eg: for Turrican.

I am very happy that the UP joystick direction is already mapped to a face button as that means all the platformers are playable!

You'd never guess I like Turrican, would you? ;)

There aren't any unused face buttons:
Quote
Controls (during emulation):
D-PAD/analog joystick - control amiga joystick (if mouse emulation turned off) / amiga mouse (if mouse emulation turned on)
A - joystick button #1
B - joystick button #2
Y - mouse button #1
X - mouse button #2
L - enable/disable mouse emulation
R - enable/disable on-screen-keyboard
START - super throttle
SELECT - emulator menu

Got Lotus 2 running without a problem. Had to try a few different versions of the adf though. Some would just show a messed up screen and then crash.

I've just tested it and I'm impressed about the performance. The only problem is that you have to set it to framekskip 0 if you want perfect smooth scrolls. However that implies that the games run a little bit too fast (which isn't a problem for me) and also that the sound, and especially the music, is corrupted. If you set it to frameskip auto, the sound is correct, but the scrolls are not perfect. I suppose this has to do with a frequency mismatch between the games (50hz) and the GCW's screen (60hz).

Is there any way to remove the black bar on the bottom with the leds? I don't understand why it's there because I notice part of the screen of the games is lost because of it.

I have the rom renamed to kick.rom, i have also just tried to start the amiga without a disk image and same thing =(

I have tried 1.2,1.3 and 2.

The cloanto roms are crypted, I assume these will not work with this uae version, but you could try to copy the key file in the rom directory.

Thanks for this port, many classics like, Alien Breed, Chaos Engine and Moonstone seem to run
flawlessly. A few additions would be nice however:

1. Ability to choose the kickstart rom version. (already mentioned)

2. It would be useful if the user had the option to manually map some of the Amiga keyboard keys
to the GCW face buttons and save them as a config per game, overwritting the default ones.
Otherwise some games that use the keyboard for controlling, even very few buttons
such as Pinball Fantasies, are currently unplayable.

3. Ability to set the maximum framerate to 50fps without having to use frameskip:auto.

4. Option to remove the black bar at the bottom. (already mentioned)

Hello, everybody.
I try to play in "Flashback" (4 disk version in *.adf)
Videos plays normally, but the main screen (start game, password etc) is quaking left from right!
In game I can see a quaking too, but not so often.
I try to change any options - nothing changes.
What I do wrong? Can anybody test this game?

I have looked into the requested kickstart selection functionality.

Turns out emulation core restart is necessary for a new kickstart to load, and the easiest solution would be to quit the program after selecting a new kickstart image and have the user manually launch the emulator again. If that's acceptable, I'll look into implementing this feature.

For space constraints, I'll need to place it in the "Load disk image" sub-menu, like this:

Thanks for continuing to add features to this
emulator, the kickstart selection looks good.

Some other features i really would like to see,
if they are programmable:

1. Give the option to remap the
GCW buttons to any Amiga
keyboard keys. That would be
really useful for some games.

2. The black bar at the bottom is not
that useful, so it would nice if we had the option
to remove it.

That won't happen. It's a ridiculous amount of effort given this frontend's crappy code.

2. The black bar at the bottom is not
that useful, so it would nice if we had the option
to remove it.
That's a side effect of adding double buffering (v-sync) to the emulator. We've looked into it before the release, but I can look at it again. Worst case I can make it optional through the menu.

Hi, I'm stuck in a game when they ask me to insert disk 2. When I try to mount disk 2 on DF0 nothing happens and when I do so and reboot it shows a floppy disk and nothing happens. Could you help me with this? Great work btw, love the emulator :)

Don't mind my previous post. I tried again this evening and after 5 times it somehow worked :) No idea what the problem was but now i'm able to save on disk 2 so I won't have to go through this one more time. Thanks again for a great emulator, I'm finally able to finish a game (Time Traveller) in which I was stuck some 20 years ago, and that haunted me since then.

If possible, could you consider adding an option to disable the status bar at the bottom? It tends to obstruct my view in some games. Thanks.

Hi, would be possible to support more floppy disks "loaded" to avoid going back to the menu on those games that has 6 disks for example ?

Also, any chance to support CD's ?

Thanksss

Important note:
This version of the program is a *port* of the original emulator.
The authors of this port are NOT maintaining the emulation core.
For any issues related to the emulation performance, please contact the *original* UAE/UAE4ALL authors.

So the answer is "no" for both.

Shadow of the beast is not working (freeze on the first level near the pit), i've tried all romset possible. India Jones and the last crusade works but there is some sound clipping, when Indiana walks it makes a very annoying " click ". Bargon attack launch and start but i cannot move the character, i can use the mouse, the button, i click every fckn where and nothing happens...

Also would be nice to add a multiple Kickstart rom set to load on start up or an option to choose another Kickstart rom by browsing the files so we could play amiga 1200 (AGA) games without having to replace the rom by ftp.

Hi Qubits, this emulator does not support AGA games sadly, it only emulates an A500.

Does anyone know if this plays the original 1986 Leaderboard Golf?
