OpenBOR v3.0 r4165 GCW0 Edition
« on: September 13, 2015, 10:14:30 pm »

Here is the new build of OpenBOR I have been working on over the past few weeks. Thanks for forum members Alexei_gp and Superfenix2020 for the testing, graphical assets and general pestering  :)

If you have issues when you first run this version you may need to delete your config files in $HOME/.OpenBOR

Changes:
Updated engine to most recent version (r4165)
Updated display libraries from SDL1 to SDL2
Support for pak files on SD card
New menu with instructions for newbies  ;) (Thanks to SuperFenix2020 for the artwork)
Automatically resize screen (support for high resolution games)
Support for full screen or keep aspect ratio (video settings)
Better menu control for navigating large collections of pak files (D-pad L+R and L+R triggers)
Numerous bug fixes and workarounds affecting specific games
Updated manual
New logo (thanks to SuperFenix2020 for the artwork)

Bugs:
Apparent incompatibility with select SD cards. Instead of crashing the app will instead only look at pak files on the internal memory.
SecurePak is not included in this release as it is closed source. Some games will still refuse to load.
In the menu music player you cannot play music from pak files on the sd card.
The seems to be some compatibility issues with some older pak files, possibly due to unmaintained code?
Occasional graphical glitches with some peculiar resolutions the GCW0 has difficulty displaying.
Tiny font size on high resolution games

Great job, David !
I'm sure though i will not use it in the future because most BOR games are crap,
sorry to say that.
Still, great job with the port !
It's seems like you even fixed some upstream bugs !

I don't agree. Whilst I had not played any OpenBOR games before working on this I would recommend this to and beat'em up fans. There are updated versions of classics such as Streets of Rage, Golden Axe etc as well as tributes to many classic cartoons.

I'd recommend starting at the chronocrash site which contains many recent high quality releases.

Hi! Great job, David! Thanks!
Will I use 320x240 resolution games only? Does the new version have some rescale  options or something else?

Does this solve the problem the older OPK had ? The older OPK you could only have one game at a time. If you have more than one it wouldn't work.

Not the most helpful bug report.

Could you please c+p the output from $HOME/.OpenBOR/Logs/OpenBorLog.txt.

I haven't found a resolution it doesn't rescale, however there is a technical limit of around 920x1200 or so. Screen resolutions bigger than this may not be centred correctly. I have not found an example of this yet.

Obviously rescaling a higher resolution image will adversely affect speed so don't expect all paks to run at the same fps.

Where are your pak file(s) located?
How many do you have in the directory?
What is the name of the pak file(s).

I did get a bug like this during testing, it was when you were trying to run a single pak file from the sd card. I thought this was fixed but testing now it seems there may still be an issue here.

EDIT Confirmed, OpenBOR correctly finds the single pak file but then incorrectly assigns it the wrong path. This bug only occurs when a single pak file is placed in the /media/SD_CARD/OpenBOR/Paks directory and the /data/local/share/OpenBOR/Paks directory is empty.

I will fix this, AtariHero, can you confirm putting two or more pak files solves your problem?

Are you running the latest firmware? OpenBOR now uses SDL2, this is only stable in the most recent firmware (20/08/2014).
Unlikely to be the issue but it is probably worth deleting or moving your OpenBOR settings.

hi David and AtariHERO, I had the same issue with the same first log file. I started again and put the pak in /media/data/local/share/OpenBOR/Paks/ . This worked for me and I've been able to load and play Super Final Fight Gold. Also Im using GCW Manager to transfer the file.

hope you get it sorted soon Atari
