Title: JzIntellivision, an updated Intellivision emulator

Thanks to Qbertaddict for the video!

Here's a re-porting of JzIntellivision. The previous version was based on older code and had a number of issues with some games not working. I have not used any code apart from the original source code. All source code is included in this release.

This version is based on a recent SVN snapshot provided by the author Joe Zbiciak. I have added code to change the control mapping, fix many broken games, support for custom-made overlays and various menu options. The control configuration can be accessed from the menu (press SELECT at any time to access the menu).

You will need at least 2 bios files, "grom.bin" and "exec.bin" for the emulator to work. Some games also require additional bios files, please read the manual included for more information.

Unique to this release is the support for custom designed overlays. Gab1975 has been hard at work designing a impressive number already. To use simply unzip the file in $HOME/.jzintellivision/overlays folder. To create your own just follow the instructions in the manual or overlay pack below.

Thanks to Gab1975 for the overlays, menu background, playtesting and bug reporting, thanks to Ker and Ghaleon for playtesting and bug reporting.

Enjoy!

Time for another compatibility listing? :P

Maybe is there an "unperceivable" connection to the ZeroX86 compatibility list !? :P

In this case it should not be necessary... as far as I know, the only "commercial game" that doesn't work is "World Series Major League Baseball" ! ;)

Many Thanks for This emu, David Knight. The Intellivision was one of the few consoles not emulated well on the GP2X so it is very nice to have it on GCW-Zero.

Is it 60fps fullspeed emulator with flawless sound?

As far as I know, the emulator runs at full speed with a flawless sound emulation (Intellivoice included) ! ;)

I've run the program but I cannot find a bios folder.
In fact I don't see a $Home folder anywhere.
I tried making a .jzintellivision folder containing a bios folder in the home folder where m other ROM folders are but it didn't work.
I'm using GCW 0 Manager.
Can anyone walk me through to the right Home folder?

The $HOME folder (/usr/local/home/) is an OS fundamental directory (where are put the applications config files)... you don't need to create anything manually.

Make sure your device has got the latest firmware release: http://www.gcw-zero.com/updates

PS: you can try to use Filezilla as FTP client... set the "transfer type" to  "binary" (Transfer menu) and activate "force showing hidden files" (Server menu).

The corrrect directory structure is automatically created for you, you just need to find it ;)
The path you are looking for is /usr/local/home/.jzintellivision/bios. The app is hard coded to only look there for the bios.
The GCW0 manager file manager starts you from the /usr/local/home so just find the folder labelled ".jzintellivision".

Remember, if it's not working check the log output file, it will tell you what went wrong.
If you're not sure how to interpret it post it here.

Yes, there's a full (and perfect) support to the Intellivoice... the "ivoice.bin" (bios file needed for the emulation) isn't difficult to find online (pm ;) )

Happy holidays to you too! :)

Happy new year!

Here's my little new years gift. I have enabled ECS support for JzIntellivision. This allows use of the keyboard which is used in the following games:

Jetson's way with words,
Mindstrike,
Mr. Basic meets Bits 'n' bytes
Scooby Doo's Maze Chase
World Series Major League Baseball
Space Patrol (untested but should work) Teaser edition tested and working ;D

You will need to place the bios file which must be named "ecs.bin" in the $HOME/.jzintellivision/bios folder in order for the above games to work.

Other changes:
Fixed the "Triple Challenge" cartridge which didn't work in the previous release due to incorrect memory configuration. If you have already tried to run this cartridge you will need to delete the triple challenge config file from $HOME/.jzintellivision/configfiles so it can generate a new one.

Q*Bert overlay is now working (this was due to "*" being an invalid filename character), just update your overlays and opk.

Minor graphical changes and set the menus and virtual numberpad/keyboard to wrap around.

Opk icon changed due to possible copyright infringement. Thanks as ever to Gab1975 for his generous artwork donations.

Opk size has been shrunk. Latest source code is still of course included within the opk.

I have remapped the controls due to requests:
L-SP=keyboard,
R-SP=numeric keypad,
B=Enter,
START=Player toggle.

Manual and controls screen changed to reflect the remapped controls and above changes.

Don't forget to update your overlays to Gab1975's latest release:
https://www.sendspace.com/file/b6ca7n

And here's the latest and greatest:

I've just tested two freely available Intellivision roms, both work fine with the GCW0 version of JzIntv:
Teaser edition of Space Patrol, a great Intellivison game by the author of JzIntV, Joe Zbiciak.
The Christmas Carol vs. The Ghost Of Christmas Presents by James Pujals.

Hi everyone.  Sorry to bother all of you on this but I am having trouble getting this to work.  I've installed and run the app but I do not get a jzintv folder.  I do get a .intv folder.  I've installed the proper .bin but nothing works.  I've attached a screenshot of the home folder.  Thanks for any help you can give.

I cannot see either .intv or .jzintellivision folders in your screenshot.

Is your firmware current? To find out click on "About" in the settings menu. The first line should read:
Quote
Build date: Aug 20 2014
If it doesn't update to the latest firmware (http://www.gcw-zero.com/updates).

Then install the latest jzintellivision opk (https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BwYi4RGX-HSaenlmV0VYbnU4OWs/view?usp=sharing).

Now when you first run it, all the folders will be created.

Place the following files in the /usr/local/home/.jzintellivision/bios folder:
Quote
exec.bin
game.rom
grom.bin
(and optionally)
ecs.bin
ivoice.bin

It should now run fine. Let me know how you get on.

Hi Again,

So I downloaded the sources and compiled them to create the OPK file.  No errors occured.

I also found the overlays on a separate site.

Now I have tried to set it up with the bios files and some roms.  The file explorer appears so I can select a game but it bombs out when I try to load the game.

bios files are in $home/.jzintellivision/bios/
overlay files are in $home/.jzintellivision/overlays

As shown in earlier messages on this post.

One of the threads mentions to look for the log file and see what is going wrong.  How can I see that log file?  It does not appear to be output into the $home/.jzintellivision/ directory.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Kind Regards

Giles

Does anyone have and can link (or PM and email) the Gab1975's overlay pack version that is UPDATED 01/01/15. The sendspace link is dead and not available in the wayback machine. Looking through my files I found I do have an earlier release of the Gab1975 overlay pack dated 12/08/2014 I could make available but would be less complete then the 01/01/15 release based on a few updates I see he then posted in this thread. I've found a website that has many overlays if it doesnt turn up besides whats in the pack but was hoping someone still had the 1-1-15 pack.  This emulator works on RG350.
