The GnGEO is an AES/MVS Neo Geo emulator and not a Neo Geo CD emulator! ;)
Ah, OK. So it will just play games like Samurai Shodown and Metal Slug. What is the difference between MVS and AES? I've only heard of MVS.

Can you recommend any good NGeo games?

The MVS is the Arcade cabinet version, while the AES is the home console. The main difference between them is the way they run the games: The MVS asks for credits, while the AES offers a limited number of continues.

Can you recommend any good NGeo games?

All of them. Really.

I see. Good to know.
All of them. Really.
Well I know a few, but no particular gems come to mind?

Metal Slug (all of them), The King of Fighters (all of them), Shock troopers, Blazing Star, Pulstar, Super Sidekicks (2 onwards), Puzzle Bobble... Those are some of the most popular ones, but you really have to try all the NeoGeo games.

I have played most of those. I fondly remember playing Last Blade and Garou as well. Well, that's a good start down nostalgia lane.

I agree, the Neo Geo has a lot of well made games!
Other examples of really interesting games are Aero Fighters 2-3, Kabuki Klash, Nightmare in the Dark, Neo Turf Master, Top Hunter, Waku Waku 7 and Windjammers... ;)

Hello.

I have some troubles while trying to make the unibios work.

I renamed the unibios.rom file to asia-s3.rom and then replaced the old file in my working neogeo.zip bios file.

Then, I was able to load games but impossible to access the menu by pushing A+B+C (so X + B + A on the GCW) at load screen.

Actually, I cannot see any loading screen where I shoud push those buttons.
I only see the green screen then the Neo Geo Logo and finally the game.
Whenever I push simultaneously on A, B and C, I never have any menu screen.

I got the same results on gngeo and FBA.

Can someone help me with this issue ?
Perhaps by sending me a working bios for the both emulators ?

Thank you.

To complete my message above.
Here is a screenshot of the unibios menu that I am trying to access to.

GnGeo

GnGeo uses the 1-Slot Europe BIOS (sp-s2.sp1) by default.

You need to replace file this in order to switch the BIOS.

However, Universe and AES BIOS files do not work for me.

FBA

FBA uses the Asia BIOS (asia-s3.rom) by default.

You can use all different BIOS files on FBA, including Universe and AES BIOS.

PS1: Renaming to original file to "asia-s3.rom.orig" didn't work for me. It seems the emulator just looks for "asia-s3.rom*". I had to delete/replace the file.

PS2: The AES BIOS files (neo-epo.bin & neo-po.bin) work fine. However, it looks like the emulator doesn't support memory cards. I wasn't able to save the game.

Emulator packs and fact sheets for Wiz, Caanoo, Dingoo and Pandora.

Thanks for the clarification yoshi41 !!

---

The pb with FBA is that it is not possible to filter the list of games by platform (Neo Geo, CPS1, CPS2, System 16, etc.).
So we are forced to navigate through a list of thousands games to find the one we are looking for.
I really hope this kind of filtering feature will be added in a future release.
But I guess you are right Inertia; FBA seems to work better for Neo Geo games.

To use unibios with gngeo, just edit gngeorc (should be in $HOME/.gngeo/) and change the line
system arcade
to
system unibios

the file unibios.rom should be (unzipped) at the same place as your neogeo.zip

I never tested it on the gcw, but it should work.

Yeeeees !!!!!!!

It works great  8)
Thanks a lot pepone !!!

EDIT : I was happy too fast.
Indeed, we can see the menu and change things like region, blood, etc.
Unfortunately, once the game is started, it is not possible to add coins using the select button like in the "arcade" mode !! :(
Do I miss something here ?

Pepone, do you know how to make it work for FBA too ?

Interesting stuff, pepone.  8)

UniBIOS works in console mode. As yonif already mentioned, it doesn't work in arcade mode. Insert coin (SELECT) is not recognized.

Btw. The file unibios.rom can also be in neogeo.zip. I have now two UniBIOS files in neogeo.zip, unibios.rom and uni-bios.rom.

@yonif: What's the issue with FBA? It works fine. You just have to replace asia-s3.rom with your UniBIOS file. And as I mentioned, remove the original asia-s3.rom, don't rename it.

I'll look at this select issue, it's strange, certainly a bug, I don't test unibios very often.
