I'll look at this select issue, it's strange, certainly a bug, I don't test unibios very often.

Indeed the Select button does not work so it's impossible to add a coin in arcade mode.
If you have a way to fix this, it would be very nice !

@yonif: What's the issue with FBA? It works fine. You just have to replace asia-s3.rom with your UniBIOS file. And as I mentioned, remove the original asia-s3.rom, don't rename it.

Ok you were right.
Finally thanks to Inertia who sent me a working neogeo bios, i am now able to play Neogeo games in FBA with the unibios.

Thank you all for your help.
It's very nice to have this forum :)

Reading all of the problems and lengths i would have to go to get this emulator running, it just does not look worth the time. i'm not as computer savy as some on here, and figure I might as well wait for an improved version or simpler way of installing it.

Well finally what I think is that the best solution would be to add some features in FBA to filter the list of games by platform (Neogeo, CPS1, CPS2, System 16, etc.).

Because Neogeo emulation is accurate in FBA but you always need to find the game you want to play with in a very big list of games.
Unless it is possible to install several instances of the same emulator with different path folders (I did not try) but I am not sure this could work as I suppose the different instances will share the same configuration folder (.fba).

GnGeo is a fast and lean Neo Geo emulator. There's nothing wrong with it. Just install the .opk and use the correct ROMs.

Switching BIOS files is a specific requirement by some users and not required at all.

Sure, getting the correct ROM and BIOS files might not be that easy. But this is not GnGeo's fault, it's the same for all arcade emulators.

you can't play properly to big tournament golf with gngeo for exemple, and that's not a romset problem.
Gngeo is not perfect, fba is better.

Bumping this to say I've tried the emulator and it's great, go try it now if you wanna play some Neo Geo games. Even raster games work well!

Just a quick word to say that I really like the emulator. Good work. Don't understand the criticism, I have all the NG Roms and each one I've tried so far worked flawlessly. And the interface is so much better than FBA which I think is very badly designed and doesn't work that well really. So kudos, good emulator.

I tried this emulator today for the first time.

Pros: excellent speed, beautiful icon in the emulator menu, great frontend interface, save game option, nice to have a neogeo only emu.
Cons: no acces to the bios menu (change region, blood setting etc.), during the startup the fps fall back to 30 in the first 5 seconds, no way to change button settings.

Overall, a great emulator but FBA Does things better. Especially the fact that the button layout can't be changed (why isn't the button #1 the most left button on the gcw, just like the neogeo where button #1 is the left one) is a showstopper for me.

Hopefully we will see an update in the future but I think that will never happen.

@yoshi41 I have a question about your rom list. You say that your maglord.zip is a custom made 119/138 ?
What do you mean by that? Do I have to mix them up? Which file from which maglord.zip has to be added or overwritten?

I checked Magician Lord on my GCW and set 1 didn't work, only set 2. Btw, if you die in set 1, you have to restart from the beginning of the level. In set 2, you respawn where you died.

However, I found the missing file "005-pg1.bin" in an old HS set. Here the files you need for maglord.zip and maglordh.zip:

Thanks but this is too technical for me.
I want the correct maglordh.zip because that is the original Aes Version, the home version. It has an intro, unlike the arcade mvs version called maglord.zip.

I don't work with datfiles and clearmame etc.

The maglordH.zip
Which files does it exist of if I unzip it? Is it something that I should mix from several files?
Or is it just a single .bin file?

Magical Lord from an old MAME set online should work on it.
Alternatively, you could try FBA and try to run your neo geo games on it.

Or you can cry in agony because arcade emulation is just a mess with lots of revisions to old games and different dumps etc...

(i might be a good idea to recompile retroarch on this thing with the mame cores)

Lol, I have magician lord working on the fba and xmame emu. But this emu is a very nice neogeo emu that also let you play the HOME versions of some neogeo games. In the arcade version one has unlimited continues and can cobtinue from where you left,
The home version (maglordh.zip) has a perfect playabilty because you can't just finish it with unlimited credits. When you die you have to start over again. That is why I am trying to get this version working.
I am not a technical guy , never work with dat files, clearmame etc.
I just google and try/error fir the correct rom. But this one is tough. It is a "custom" rom apparantly mixed.
That keeps me puzzled.
No hard feelings.

Well, i was working on a fork of gngeo (before i gave up working  on it because it is awful)
and the one from coolrom.cum definitively work on it.
EDIT: Actually scratch that, i don't think they have a home version there.

Thanks, will try that one in the morning when I get up.
Why do you think gngeo is awful?
I like it. Very basic but it is working. Has a save function.

The code is cluterred with shit i could not care for.
Therefore, it is very difficult to work with.

doperums has a home version, maybe try that version ?

@gameblabla
I downloaded it from doperoms too, but no luck.
I agree with you about the mess , lol.

This is the history of the magician lord home rom:

---------------

0.142u5: Changed description to 'Magician Lord (NGM-005)' and clone to 'Magician Lord (NGH-005)'. Fixed rom names.

- 0.140u1: Johnboy fixed/mixed up crc's in Magician Lord and clone. Renamed (maglord) to (maglordh) and (maglordh) to (maglord).

- 0.130u1: NeoGeo update [Johnboy]: Changed Magician Lord (set 1) to clone (set 2) and (set 2) to parent (set 1). Corrected chip label of maincpu rom to 005-pg1.bin (MichaelNet) in Magician Lord (set 1). Renamed (maglord) to (maglordh) and (maglordh) to (maglord).

- 0.124u1: Added new cpu2 rom.

- 0.120: Johnboy fully redumped Magician Lord. Added correct 128k cpu2 m1 rom.

- 0.69: Jarek Burczynski fixed FM bug causing bad sounds in Magician Lord and other games which was introduced in the last release.

- 22nd May 2003: Jarek Burczynski fixed a bug in the YM2610 sound chip emulator that caused problems in the Magician Lord intro for example.

- 0.35: Changed description to 'Magician Lord (set 1)' and clone '(Home version)' to '(set 2)'.

- 0.35b2: Added clone Magician Lord (Home version).

- 0.34b1: Added Magician Lord (Alpha Denshi 1990).

- 26th January 1998: CaBBe dumped Magician Lord.

---------------------

I will never get it too work lol  :o

So here an update by me.
Yes, I have the magician lord home version now!
And yes, I found a way to change the button lay-out in gngeo!
This is a great neogeo emulator for the gcw zero. Only one problem is that Neo Turf Masters in unplayable.

Pros: excellent speed, beautiful icon in the emulator menu, great frontend interface, save game option, nice to have a neogeo only emu, there is a way to change button settings.

Cons: no acces to the bios menu (change region, blood setting etc.), during the startup the fps fall back to 30 in the first 5 seconds, neo turf masters unplayable.

Is this emulator running exactly the same on the rg350?
