Free Heroes 2 (Heroes of Might and Magic 2 Engine)

Here's a port of Free Heroes 2

You will need either the demo or full game files (available from gog.com)

The first time you run Free Heroes 2 it will generate the folder structure and exit.
Copy the original data/*.agg files to $HOME/.fheroes2/data.
Copy maps file (maps/*.mp2) to $HOME/.fheroes/maps.

Controls
D-Pad: (slow) mouse movement)
A-Stick: Mouse movement
A : Left click
B : Right click
X : Show or hide map/Cast spell in battle
Y : Default action*/Soft skip in battle
L : Next Hero
R : Next Castle
START : OK/YES
SELECT : Cancel/NO/Retreat from battle

*Default action will depend on the object in focus:
 - hero : object action, or if path set - continue move else open dialogue
 - town : open dialogue

Issues:
There are some minor text display issues due to the small screen size but it doesn't seem to interfere with play.
Probably more...

Never tried HMM2 but HMM3 is one of my favorite video games of all time.
Thanks for the port, David.

Yeah, HoMM3 this is one of my favourite games but I never manage to get very far!

I'm sure I test-ported the HoMM3 engine a few months ago. As I recall the game engine worked fine but the text was unreadable due to a default resolution of 640x480.

I'll dig out the code and see if I can tweak it some more.

Hi David

Superb port !!
Really good game, despite the fact that I gonna need to take a look to the manual to understand it better because it looks like an complex strategy game

Thanks again !

One curious question:

Are there more gog.com games possible to be ported since they are for Linux as well ?

Saw that the TexMurphy games over there were also released for Linux and they are really good!

+1 for Tex Murphy! Me and some mates at Uni spent too much time playing Under A Killing Moon, managing to finish it! Didn't get too far in the Pandora Directive though...

gog.com is not an indicator whether something is portable to GCW Zero or not. In fact most of the games sold via gog.com are just DOS executables wrapped in Dosbox emulator, so they're not even Linux games to begin with.

Also, this is a thread about Free Heroes 2, please stay on topic.

Thanks for the great work as usual David. One question though, is the Price of Loyalty expansion compatible?
