Hexen 2
« on: January 03, 2014, 07:38:27 am »
Can someone let me know where the wad for Hexen 2 would go? It shouldn't go to data/local/share/games/doom with the rest of those wads since it uses the Quake engine.
I also read that this game may not work since a certain lib is no longer used. Is that verified that the game no longer works and if so would there be a work around to get it working? Perhaps in a future firmware release?

The game works on the most recent firmware. Just checked my directory in dingux commander, and the pak0.pak and pak1.pak files go in ~/local/home/.hexen2/data1

did you verify that the name of the wad is all written in lowercase?

Weird, I can't get this game working for the life of me. Everything is lowercase and the path is  /media/data/local/home/.hexen2/data1

Are there any necessary files besides the pak files?

oh wait, so it uses the Quake engine.

Are you sure a quake engine port is already available for the gcw?

There is Quake 2 but not the original Quake yet.

He didn't, beucase Hexen2, while based on Quake1 engine, has a separate codebase.
Johnnyonflame ported it to the GCW Zero and it is available.

That and the fact that Vato has the game running on his Zero.

Hey Vato, could you possibly tell me the size of your pak files? I tried 2 different pairs of pak files but they are different sizes. One pak1 I have is 77mb while the other is 74mb. I did some poking around online and other ports of Hexen 2 has the necessary pak1 as being 72mb and pak0 at 20mb. I'm wondering if the ones I have just aren't compatible for whatever reason which is weird because one pair of them work in the Wiz version of Hexen 2.

Doing a lil reading, and this port is based on uHexen 2:Hammer of Thyrion 1.5.4, which requires:
c9675191e75dd25a3b9ed81ee7e05eff  data1/pak0.pak
c2ac5b0640773eed9ebe1cda2eca2ad0  data1/pak1.pak
info source: http://uhexen2.sourceforge.net/readme.html

heres a shot of what my data1 folder looks like

also, if you havent seen this already, here's the fixed .opk that Johnny posted a few weeks ago. The older release does not work on new firmware due to the removal of the libmad.s0 audio decoder library.

I hope this will help fix your issues =)

I have a question/curiosity... in a near future will there be the chance to have an OpenGL ES version of Hexen 2 engine?

Thanks Vato, got it working. Turns out it was incompatible pak files.
