Using GCW Zero as a retro/indie TV console?
« on: January 06, 2013, 04:41:24 pm »
From what I read, the devs are still working on various hardware aspects of the Zero.

What I want to know is, how likely is the following scenario with the GCW Zero?

-- GCW Zero outputting to TV (either thru AV or HDMI) (hopefully better quality than the NeoGeoX?!)
-- external game controller hooked up via USB (or some wireless method), i.e. PS3/XB360 pad
-- emulator outputting image+sound to TV without noticeable lag, with emulated game controlled by console controller without noticeable lag

Basically I want to use the Zero as a retro console (when not using it as a handheld). According to the Zero specs, this should be possible (and I would urge the devs to try to get this functionality going before the Kickstarter if possible). I don't think it's absolutely necessary; the Zero is attractive enough just as a retro/indie handheld, but I think a TON of people would find it easier to justify the expense if it could also be used as a plug'n'play retro console.

Also, is the use of wireless PS3 or XB360 pads a possibility with the Zero? I'm thinking it's probably not possible since I don't see Bluetooth on the Zero's specs. But then again, a cheap USB BT dongle could potentially solve that, so...

Feedback and thoughts from GCW devs would be especially appreciated.

you will have all of this for sure.

Since at the moment we don't have tv-out (analog nor hdmi) implemented, we cannot know how good the chips are and whether they create signal delay.

Ah, too bad. Hopefully we'll know more by the time the Kickstarter begins. Thanks.

Any progress yet on drivers for HDMI out, AV out and/or using USB gamepads?
