Author Topic: Two things that scared me a bit about the GCW and I want to make sure.  (Read 7278 times)

I'd still back up the console (well, I already have :), but I have forgot to notice two things, that I remember from old Dingoo and hated them.

1) Where are the volume controls? Either soft like GP2X or hard like GP32/Caanoo? In videos rotating around I didn't noticed them. Is it like Dingoo where I had to go to Mixer in Gmenu? Or is there some button combination where I will be able to change volume in hardware or soft mixer every time, even if the software developer of the specific never bothered to? Quite important for me, sometimes I need to turn down the volume in my Dingoo and I have to quit emulator and go to mixer and then I am not sure if it's perfect volume till I hear :P

2) Reset button scares me but it's good that there is a reset button. I just had nightmares from Dingoo. I am on the metro, I play something that freezes, I can't just close the console, I have to find a thin object in a place where I can't, or install my own reset button. You know what I mean? Not that important as the volume controls missing though..

Does it have to do with how the Ingenic chipset work? I say similarities with Dingoo. In Caanoo no matter if software freezed, hardware reset button always worked. But is it possible that in Dingoo sometimes, no matter what, you have to use hardware reset pin?

1. Power slider plus left and right for volume.
2. You need something small enough for the hard reset or you can force the program shutdown sometimes. I forgot the combo off the top of my head though.

Sounds good! Hope the power slider combination works regardless software..

I thought there was going to be an actual reset button on the GCW-Zero?

Their is but it is a pinhole button. It is shallow but you still need something small to press it like a pen, etc.

I thought that was being changed to a physical button of sorts, not having to rely on a paper clip etc.

The power + up/down functionality is also present in OpenDingux for Dingoo A320, so you should have it already :)

About "soft reset" - you can kill the currently running program by pressing power + select. Power + L + R powers off the device.
The reset hole itself, while needed only as a last resort (kernel panic), is larger than in Dingoo A320. You can easily press it with a pen.

One thing that really worries me is how the heck am I going to hit the 'B' button without my thumb inadvertently hitting the 'Select' button?

I grabbed my A320 as a test and when I hit that bottom button part of my thumb naturally rests on the surface below it, which is right where the select button is on the zero.

I never thought about it till you mentioned it. My thumb does rest partially over the select button when pressing B. But I have never accidentally pushed it. The middle joint in the thumb that sometimes causes miss presses on small handhelds for me sits right of select even when pressing B. I don't think it is a big concern.

It never happened for me to accidently press SELECT either. Maybe because SELECT + START need more force to be pressed than the front buttons. They are "click" while the buttons are "soft", if that makes sense :)

That is incorrect

Powerslider plus up or down for Volume
Powerslider left or right for Brightness
Powerslider select and start for hard reset if there is no pin to use the reset button
Powerslider and select will kill current app if it is locked up

These work on all apps.

all avenues are covered

I am dumpfuckd!
I didn't know this thing was already in my Dingoo for years. Or was it only a feature of Opendingux but not Dingux? Definitelly not in native.
