Regarding emulation frame rates
« on: January 15, 2013, 08:23:57 pm »
So I watched this new video...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=YxzkAz2Cc08

... and noticed CPS2 and NeoGeo games were dropping frames (in the 30 - 40 fps range). This is still playable, of course, but disappointing. I think this hardware should be able to reach a near constant 60fps at fs 0 for nearly all 16 bit emulations, but this video makes me want to ask. Are those frame rates a function of the emus not yet being optimized for the Zero, or are those the sort of frame rates we should expect?

I will quote qubertaddict from http://boards.dingoonity.org/gcw-zero/gcw-zero-videos-and-reviews/105/

BAFelton, FBA is running with FrameSkip, right? Because it doesn't seem 100% smooth, and a bit of sound stuttering.
He needs to edit his cf files. SF and sunset riders run with frameskip 0 and no issues. Also fba is in beta so if sound starts to stutter you just exit out of the emu and go back in. I clears everything up. One of my videos shows fba and frameskip 0

So though he talks about FBA the same can be told about all the other emulators. There will be more work on them in the future especially if the kickstarter is a success.

Ah, ok. So we can expect 60fps fs 0 then. Very good.

I figured it was worth making athread for this question as many people might wonder the same thing.
