PSX
« on: August 19, 2013, 10:56:15 am »
Hum, I just saw this:
https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B7wD0T-3tQNpYUp3OWhKb3JLbE0/edit?pli=1

What is this? is it the dingoo PSX emulator that was mentionned before and pose problems or is it a GCW version in development?

It's psx4all with MIPS dynarec core by Ulrich Hecht, that you might remember from Dingoo A320. It has performance improvements by JohnnyOnFlame and custom bios selection by me. Other than that, it's the same thing as on Dingoo A320.

Johnny is already not interested in further developement, so this emulator will probably stay this way. If you want higher compatibility with PSX games or faster performance, you're better waiting for a new PSX emulator.

The source code is available here: https://github.com/JohnnyonFlame/psx4all-dingoo

None of my psx games work on this, it needs cue file support as all my games are multiple bin files.

It's not worth the hassle, I've got over 100 psx games on my pandora with pcsx rearmed.
I've got about 2 games to boot up on this and they both crashed halfway through.(both single bin files)
Talking of the pandora, I would love to see something like compo4all ported to the zero in time.
Online hiscore leaderboards yes please!

Psx4all crashes when trying to choose a game from /media directory. I can not select any image on /sdcard. It's also crashes randomly when I'm browsing other directories.
Psx4all is in sdcard/apps/ (Moving to /data/apps does not help)
How to select iso a bin image from sdcard?

I'm curious how it handles Symphony of the Night and Mega Man 8, I've yet to get my system and those are a couple of titles I've been meaning to try.

Of course I get that this isn't a spectacular build or anything and something proper needs to be developed, but it'd be a pleasant surprise to get this much working.

SotN ranges from playable to great, but I'd recommend ripping the music out, since the playback is bad.
Also there are some changes in these builds that will require a few changes to the kernel in order to work properly. So I would not recommend using it until these changes are incorporated into the mainline kernel.

It crashes when you are trying to display the content of a directory, or crashes after you have selected a file?
If it's the latter, then it's either:
a) because you're using the "Load a game" option when you have no bios. If that's the case, either copy the bios to the right place, or use the "Load a game without bios" option
b) because this emulator is a p.o.s. and has poor game compatibility. Can't help much if that's the reason.

It's time to learn about the GCW's file structure!
Code: [Select]
Internal memory: /media/data/
Code: [Select]
external microSD: /media/sdcard/

Hey, are you planning to later continue development for it, or do you have more important stuff to port?

Not planning to develop it further, I might change my mind tho.

I hope you do if nobody else comes up. While I of course won't hold it against you for not taking on the task further, having a good PSX emulator would make the GCW worth ditching my poorly-modded PSP in all aspects.

Code: [Select]
Internal memory: /media/data/
Code: [Select]
external microSD: /media/sdcard/
1. Content of /media/sdcard/Apps
psx4all.opk, scph1001.bin, game.bin
There are no psx4all related files on /media/data/Apps
2. Bios options->Bios file: scph1001 (North American)
3. File options->Load a game-> (/usr/local/home/.psx4all/ selected as default)
    Go by "DIR->  .." to the root of file system /
    Select /media->crash
    There are crashes if I choose another directories in a root, for example /home
Connected by telnet to 10.1.1.2: dmesg after crash psx4all.opk "jz4760fb_interrupt_handler, InFiFo0 underrun"
What might be wrong?

That's a wrong directory for the bios.
Bios MUST go to /usr/local/home/.psx4all/ (/data/local/home/.psx4all/ when you see it via FTP), as stated in the description on the download page.

Crashing on browsing the filesystem however is not normal. Do you have any special character filenames in that directory (ie. using chinese characters)?

Anyway, that's the reason we don't release any software before it's ready. Some people are disappointed that they can't try emulators they have seen on some videos in the internet. But if we released them in a half-finished state, like psx4all, they'd complain that nothing works and there are crashes all the time.

Thank you. bios is moved, but it does not solve the crashing.
I read the readme,which is only for the dingoo:"It is thus highly recommended to use a PlayStation BIOS image,
which psx4all expects to be situated in the same directory and to be named "scph1001.bin"."
There are no special characters in filenames.
I'm using far manager FTP client under windows vista. Current language for non-Unicode programs is Russian.
Could it affect to the format of the file names. win1251->utf-8 or something like that?

UPD: firmware version gcw0-update-2013-07-22

I would like to help finding issues in a half-finished software.
By the way, where to write issues for GCW? For example in DinguxCmdr, Backspace button do not work in folder renaming dialog.
