PocketSNES updated
« on: July 17, 2013, 04:53:37 am »
A very minor update though. The ROM path and menu options are now correctly saved.
Download removed.

Updated (2013.07.21):

This time with a bit more changes:
  • Perfect sound, at whatever sound frequency. Sound cracks are gone for good! I suggest to use 44100 Hz stereo sound for the best experience.
  • Incidentally, this fixed the frame skipper. You can now enjoy your games with frameskip set to AUTO.
  • The ROM selector won't crash anymore if you try to go up one folder while you're on the root
  • 50Hz games are now emulated at correct speed
  • Cool icon by hi-ban

Actually, that's a rather significant update.  It fixes a very annoying bug.

Thank you, Pcercuei.

I have noticed that in some games (ie. Yoshi's Island) frameskip 0 gives better framerate than frameskip AUTO.
Also guys, don't forget to enable the transparency :)

I've notice that as well with pocketsnes.  I've even noticed it with other emulators on PC.

Perhaps the extra computation required for the program to decide whether it should skip a frame is significant enough that it'd been better to just not bother skipping any frames to begin with.

I didn't see fullscreen. Can I enable that? I don't see it on snes9x4d either.

News like this is why I was so interested in getting a GCW Zero in the first place, finally I might have that perfect portable SNES. :D

Edit: If anyone would be so kind, it would be fantastic to see a video featuring the latest build of PocketSNES and a few of the well known tough-to-emulate games.

Whoever does it, don't forget to test Frameskip 0 with the most demanding games. Seems to work better than AUTO in some cases.

But then beware of sound cracks if the emulation is under 60fps.

Some feedback:

1- Games run better with frameskip 0 option. Using framskip in Auto there is some flicker in the image. Some games have serious slowdowns when using frameskip 0, so they need frameskip. For instance, Axelay or Rendering Ranger R2 are slow in some moments with frameskip 0, in auto is solved, but they don't feel smooth.

2- Sound is not avery accurate, in Rendering Ranger R2 there are some acute sounds that are not in the original game.

Apart form that, runs pretty good, better than Snes9x4d inho.

Thanks for the update

I will reply for him.

No for both, because:
1) TV-OUT (analog) will require IPU support to be implemented to properly scale the resolution, before we can continue the work on it.
2) USB OTG code is still not fully merged with our main kernel repo. It is actually located on a separate repository.

fullscreen can be done with a software scaler. Ayla was very good at making good and efficient software scalers.
