Friends, I was hoping to make the first post in this thread about an update in the development for our console, but tragedy intervened. It is with a heavy heart that we need to make this statement:

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the people of Boston that we had become acquainted with just a few weeks ago. Boston will always occupy a special place in the history of our company and we send our best wishes to that big city which gave our small company so much dignity and respect.

As you may remember, our Kickstarter funding campaign included a "kicking it forward" initiative. Our plan was to fund other Kickstarter projects related to gaming. However, we will now be including another category. We will be giving consideration to any Kickstarter projects aimed at helping the victims and families of those who were affected by this horrific tragedy.

Our trip to Boston was my first exposure to that proud city. I will always remember Boston for its unique and peaceful people who never deserved such an indiscriminate act of violence.

This is a video for people who doubt the existence of a production GCW

A lot of things were done to get to this point. It required changes in the boot loader, in the flash tool, in the MIPS kernel code and in the SD controller driver, but here is a video of a production unit booting with 512mb of ram

I am sure that many of us here are excited to see the working bootloader. We are very thankful for the progress made by our development team and it makes us eager to start shipping these consoles. However, now that our production console is awake we noticed a few unexpected issues that did not exist on the early units. These issues prevent us and the development team from being comfortable with delivering the consoles. Our biggest concern is a persistent audio "stutter" issue that needs to be corrected. We are trying to assess whether this issue could be solved with a firmware update or worse, it could be a problem with the kernel.

Seeing the console boot up was a light at the end of the tunnel for ourselves as well, so we want to keep up the momentum. If the problem turns out to be related to the kernel, then it will become a much more complicated fix for an average user. We are trying to avoid this as first impressions are lasting ones.

The issue we are experiencing is a very recent one so it is still a mystery to all of us. Justin and I have agreed on a preliminary plan to approach the problem. We will be communicating with the development team as they assess it. Once we have enough information to understand the scope of the issue and how to resolve it, Justin and I will then confer and make a judgment call on whether we can flash and release the units now or if we need to wait for an adequate solution. Again, this is an early plan for an unexpected problem but our goal remains unchanged- we intend to deliver a complete product as quickly as possible.

Most of all, we want to make sure you are satisfied when enjoying your favorite games on the Zero for the first time. Those who have been able to experience the Zero know this feeling and it would be a major disappointment for everyone involved in this project if we worked so hard but our fans were soured by technical issues.

Our plan still involves two shipments for each Special Edition order. Once we get the consoles out, we will start asking for your shirt sizes.

Awesome new update - extracted from KS board but news is very much for SE owners too...

"More photos of the factory and the GCW Zero going through Assembly. Also pictures of two boxes of the consoles we recieved already here. The count is twenty consoles per box two rows of ten per box.

Sorry for the delay in updates been very sick with spring flu and getting GCW HQ  Articus talked about in his post on Dingoonity prepped for the next flash party.

This week I've been flashing solo because of being sick and not wanting anyone else to catch my germs and get this nasty flu also.

We should start confirming addresses this weekend for SE and shipping on Tuesday. We wil still flash all the KS models we can this weekend and addresses will be confirmed for those also once we get SE models shipped."

For SPECIAL EDITION pre-orders ONLY:
In order to lend a helping hand, I made this form to facilitate the gathering and confirmation process of SE pre-orders for GCW.

https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1JOldzPyYbWQal2QHXy6-b0imGLsp7G9_853ifeZsbkc/viewform

I ran this idea by Justin, he gave me the go ahead.
Please fill out your current info and once complete, I will share the data with GCW.

Thank you

Edit:  Someone please do me a favor and post that link in the OpenPandora Forum.  Thank you!  :)

GCW proudly presents the GCW Zero SE units which are flashed and being readied for shipment. The Kickstarter units will receive the same treatment afterwards.

I got some news from GCW today regarding the SE shipping status, Pardue, and warranty of the gcw0.

They have shipped 60 units so far. No word or time frame for the others yet.

They know of three units thus far that have a stiff d-pad that can sometimes get lodged in one direction. It appears it should loosen up over time but if it doesn't, we should NOT open up the unit and attempt to file down or cut away at the plastic of the gcw0's housing. Users experiencing this issue should seek warranty support from GCW.

Though GCW wishes users do not attempt to disassemble their unit, this does not void the warranty. However, any damage or modifications to the gcw0 will void the factory warranty.
Though the warranty is provided by the factory, GCW handles all warranty requests, resale supply and distribution of the gcw0. Claims are handled with a repair or replace of your unit.

As for Pardue, he's apparently been busy with a political campaign and should finish and return soon.

The following was posted in another topic by GCW.
Regarding warranty, refunds and dpad problems.

As for warranty we are not a big company and as such funds are very tight at this point. If the console is sealed and not played and refunded requested within twenty four hours of reciept we will provide a refund after the console is returned to include shipping.

If it is a replacement/repair warranty we will cover the shipping of the console back to you after it has been repaired or replaced.

I have seen the customers with black consoles have issues with d-pad or buttons or both sticking we will have a video up soon that will show you how to apply silicon lube which will fix this issue. If your still not happy we will do a repair/replacement warranty for the console.

We also have replacement d-pads coming that resolve the issue and will be sending them to anyone who requests one and feels they are up to the task or fixing it on their own. You will still keep your warranty as long as you do not willing damage the console or do modification to it other then changing the d-pad.

Another update from Justin regarding the stick D-Pad issue:

Quote
Everyone if you have an SE with Sticky D-Pad the three options are:

1. Send it back and we will replace it with a new smaller one for you.

2. Request a replacement D-Pad and once we get them from Factory we will mail it to you.

3. You can use the work around Relay01 has posted which shows how to use Silicon lube to resolve the issue.

We will be changing out the D-Pad on the few SE units we have left 30 or so to ship and 150 which will be used for warranty replacement if they are needed once we recieve the new smaller replacement D-Pad from the factory.

The D-Pad replacements from factory should ship out to me sometime late next week.

Hello everyone,

I have decided to end my involvement with Game Consoles Worldwide. My other personal and professional obligations make it very difficult to devote an adequate amount of time to this project. I hope to continue with my support for the Zero, but only as a fan now.

I wish the best of luck to Justin and his console.

Thank you.
