No CFW for the GCW Zero?
« on: May 19, 2018, 11:37:30 am »
So i havent touched my unit for about 3 years and completely forgot about it until i found it while cleaning up today and thought id update the system and have a play. The last official FW update for the device seems to be 2014-8-20 so i was guessing all development must have officially died for the unit but im super surprised that there is no CFW development going on for this device, is this correct?

The official firmware IS the custom firmware, being done by members of the community from the start.

There is still development going on at a slower pace, but a firmware release is coming.

Yes, the one you got is currently the latest one.

Nope, there isnt a thread about it yet. I know it will include some improvements to IPU scaling and some IPU related fixes, too. But i haven't got extensive info or dates.

Although technically flashing another unofficial firmware is possible, this is un-needed (at least for the common user) as the official firmware is already open by itself.
Of course, we are still waiting for the much dreaded next firmware release...

It's in development since forever. I mean, everyone's GCW will break by the point it gets released.
I know mine did...

No signs of it, it seems. Last time, pcerceui showed me his patches to upstream for linux but other than that, i don't know what's left. (he said that some of it could not be merged upstream and also the wiki indicates that not everything was reverse engineered but i don't know how up to date that is)

Yes, a new firmware is being worked on. People in the know tell gameblabla this, but he doesn't seem to believe it.
