Mount micro SD card
« on: September 21, 2017, 03:26:58 am »
is there ANY way to mount my micro SD card to the GCW Zero?
as i had previously stated in one of my other recent posts
my games that are on my sd card are NOT showing up at ALL
when i go into ANY of the emulators i know for a fact that there is
nothing wrong with the card itself cuz it works perfectly fine in my
GPD XD and it's formatted to FAT32 it's also a 32gb micro sd card as well

The SD Card, assuming it's 32 GB or less, auto-mounts under "/media".

yes it is a 32gb card and for some reason my card isn't showing up and none of the
folders on the card are showing up either in any of the emulators under the /media
folder on the GCW it worked perfectly fine about a week or 2 ago and i havent messed
with any of the settings on it and i'm not a new user to it either

I am wondering if something may have gone wrong with the SD Card slot and that's why it's not registering. Perhaps @com64 can offer some insight. He's good at that kind of thing...

I always format my microsd cards to EXT4 and have never had a mounting issue; try formatting your microsd as EXT4.

For Windows, I think MiniTool partition wizard supports EXT, and you can mount it on windows with ext2fsd.

For Linux, you know what to do.

For Mac, I dunno.

If you're able to telnet or ssh into your GCW or something, you could give us some more insight...

Code: [Select]
dmesg
cat /etc/fstab
mount

@com64 I don't exactly know TOO much about Linux and what exactly to do with the GCW  I play more on my GPD XD than I do on my GCW Zero I just know how to load games and emulators onto my GCW with the GCW Manager and my micro SD card always worked on it as FAT32 I have no idea what changed with it but I'm kinda frustrated and upset that it's not working properly in my GCW and I feel like if I change the partition from FAT32 to something else then it may not work in my GPD XD I've done and tried everything and looking for youtube videos isn't much help and same with looking for stuff on Google as well

I have a 32GB microSD formatted as FAT32, filled to the brim with data, and it works fine in both of my GCW Zeroes.  If it were me, I'd first try cleaning the SD card contacts with a cotton swab and isopropyl/rubbing alcohol.

If it still isn't working, just buy a 2nd micro SD card & re-load items on your first sd card to that one, done deal. SD cards are pretty inexpensive these days.

@Senor Quack I have already done that and still don't work

@dreamesper I HAVE thought about doing that but its NOT that easy as you make it sound and yes I know they are inexpensive but it's kinda hard when you're on a budget that's why I posted this to look for answers but I'm not exactly getting a solution to my issue with my card and GCW I'd like to continue to use the 32gb micro SD I already have since I can't exactly buy a new one anytime soon

When you go to Settings -> System Info, what are the dates shown at the top?

That firmware is pretty old, you should update it:  http://www.gcw-zero.com/updates

Since you are running an October 2013 firmware, you'll need to install three separate updates to get it running the latest firmware.
First, you run the SD corruption fix:  http://www.gcw-zero.com/files/gcw0-anti-corruption-update-2014-05-05.opk
Second, you run the May 05 2014 update:  http://www.gcw-zero.com/files/gcw0-update-2014-05-05-take2.opk
Lastly, you run the August 20 2014 update: http://www.gcw-zero.com/files/gcw0-update-2014-08-20.opk

Obviously, these opk updates will need to be uploaded to the GCW Zero's internal storage since your SD card isn't working right now.

Make sure your unit is plugged in via USB so you don't run out of battery charge while the updates are running. If your unit doesn't respond for a while after doing an update and rebooting, give it time to complete: it can take a little while.

After you install each of the main updates, verify that the dates shown in Settings -> System Info are correct. Once you have it running August 20 2014 firmware, it's OK to delete the update OPK files off your unit, you don't need them anymore.
