GCW Zero project status and how to develop
« on: April 30, 2019, 10:50:10 pm »
Hello there,

I like to ask what's going on with the GCW Zero. I just discovered it today, but I've thought alot about doing something related to a community/hobby/opensource console, and suddenly I found this. But it all looks dead to me.

I can't sign up for the IRC chat and when I click on the community wiki link on the webpage, it just throws me back to the main page. The information on development is super scarce, and it's only about the toolchain, and that hasn't been updated since 2014. The contact link doesn't work either. There's basically just this unofficial forum.

So... Is it dead, or what?

And if I were to look into beginning development for this, how should I start? I have a decent knowledge of programming (Lua, C and R), but I don't have much insight into developing for systems and stuff like this. And I'm an RFTM-guy, and I don't see a manual...

Until Surkow gets his GCW Wiki back up and running, you can read it using archive.org:
https://web.archive.org/web/20150923102349/http://wiki.surkow.com:80/Main_Page

You can get live help on freenode IRC in #gcw channel, it is active.  Don't expect an immediate answer, give people time to respond, at least several hours. Not everyone is in the same timezone or on the same schedule.  Here is help if you've never used IRC before:
https://freenode.net/kb/answer/chat

Remember, there were only a few thousand of these units made, and of these, after ~4 years, the remaining users are what are left. It never was a big scene.  Yes, the latest toolchain is from 2014, but it still works and is ready for download http://www.gcw-zero.com/develop     There will likely be a future firmware+toolchain update.  There is still development happening.

Oh I wish so much you would be right ;-)
