Hi everyone !
Here's my own tutorial for disassembling and modding the zero !
Modded GCW Zero
Remove the analog stick cover
Also remove the µSD.
Remove the 4 cover with a needle
Remove the 4 screws with a philips screwdriver (PH00)
Remove the back cover starting by L or R
Be carefull with the motor wires !
Remove the motor using the screwdriver
If you know how to solder, it's a good idea to add a JST connector to be able to plug/unplug the battery
I solder on the GCW side et used thermal shrink on the battery side
Push the switch cover from the inside using the screwdriver
Switch cover removed
Remove the L/R switch stand
It's time to remove the remaining screws from the mobo.
Remove the gray border : up
It is possible but not mandatory to deconnect the screen
Remove the screen only to fix the trouble with light showing through the white casing.
Black electric tape in place and cut
Plastic cover used with sticky tape on it
LED covered with electric tape : 1 black layer on red led and 2 white layer on green led
Original d-pad next to an unmodded black DMG d-pad
White modded d-pad from top
No more light visible behind the bezel
And the classic disclaimer :
Opening the zero is likely to void your warranty (if there's any). That hardware modification is really likely to ruin your device. I could not be held for responsible if anything goes wrong. In any case, use common sense and don't try it if your not able to solder or know someone who can fix it for you if anything goes wrong.
That being said, happy modding.
